| I wonder if he's any relation to Brent Seelman?? Brent posts on my supermodified message board on occasion. I could ask him.

| There is a headshot of Bob Seelman taken at this years Oswego Speedway Oldtimers Reunion along with his autograph about half way down the following page: http://journals.aol.com/redw492070/midwest-connection-/ Didn't Seelman win an IDC race with his offset? Maybe Nanimo?

I heard back from Brent Seelman and Bob is indeed his father. And he also ran the #74. And yes they brought the car out here in the 70's and ran the IDC and Golden State Classic. I posted the photos for him to look at and I'm sure he will let me know some history on the car. I'll post it here after I hear from him again.

Looking at my collection of microfilm clippings I see Bob Seelman, of Lansing, Michigan, won the IDC main at Langley Speedway, (Langley, BC), Saturday, August 19, 1972.
From the news item I found he seems to have been the only supermodified running without a wing as they didn't run them back east.
The IDC series for 1972 was won by Bill Deschamps of Lakeport, CA.

Here's Brent's reply about the photo's of his dad's car and to another question that was asked of him concerning a reverse rotation motor.........
Curt, yes both pics are of dad (actually the same car a year apart). The color picture I believe was taken during the Golden State Classic in 1971? The b/w picture was taken at Flamboro, Ont and used in the 1972 Golden State Classic program. The tail change came about because of aero at Phoenix. I wish I knew what had happened to all of our old roadsters (there were 3, the car in the pics, an old converted Indy car, and "Chuggaboom" the car we would have won the Delaware (ONT) Speedway championship with in '72 if Jack Greedy had run the last 3 races of the season)
Dad still has all of our sprint cars in storage, and now that he has retired from GM you may see them back next season (but not with Dad driving).
Bobby, the reverse rotation engine was a rumour that got started by someone to redirect attention away from our real advantage it was really just backwards headers. The real reverse rotation engine was the 504 rat motor we stuffed into the second Leffler car with the 30 square foot top wing and 15 square foot nose wing. Just a little too much motor! LOL

You`ve jogged my memory w/this thread..I remember (In spite of severe and acute CRS) the IDC and running it several times with JJ Hickle`s dad, Joe. The blackberry patch at Portland and the picture of Roy Smith shook something loose in the old memory bank..Joe knew the blackberries all too well.
What puzzles me is that I don`t remember the open wheel cars. Our first year on the tour we ran what amounted to an upgraded street stock. The next year we went to Florida and came home with a Howe car and had Cope Bros. build us a motor. ..Radical ground effects and a huge spoiler on a stock car is how I recall it. Was there an open wheel division? Does any one know of anything online that may have stories/photos of the IDC? Anyone remember Joe Hickle in the 77 car?

Answered some of my own questions reading an article on Bob Beadle:
"With his experience at Sky Valley he came together with Reg Midgley from Victoria BC to start an open wheel series called the International Drivers Challenge Series (IDC). The series included both asphalt and dirt tracks with seven races in ten days drawing the top open wheel drivers including Roy Smith.
Bob and Reg used the same format and started a stock car series and that is when his interest in NASCAR racing began. Bob became a car owner with Roy Smith driving. After winning many open competition races and NASCAR sanctioned races, Bob partnered in the Vice President position with Dick Midgley to run what was then known as the Winston West Grand National Series. With Roy Smith at the helm Bob went on to purchase his own team winning multiple Grand National Championships as a car owner. "
