The 360s at the local dirt tracks run just has good of a show as the 410s. And up at skagit there lap times are practically the same has the 410s!
Yourgreengoods.com Outlaw 410 Sprints
Fast Time - Travis Rutz 11.574
Budweiser 360 Sprints
Fast Time - Travis Rutz 11.988.
so why do i keep hearing about this "360's are soo slow and boring" Im betting if you put a high end 360 in a 410 race at skagit, you wont beable to tell its a 360.
My argument fails if Travis Rutz is running his 410 has a 360, they are painted the same.

I don`t see that nearly as much as I did when I lived in Pennsylvainia. They run the 360`s after the 410`s at the Grove........more than half the fans would leave... They seem to be sprint car snobs! Last edited on Saturday Aug 23rd, 2008 01:59 AM by mesprint69

I've never heard that before. That is why there are the 360 nationals and the ASCS is all 360s and pull large crowds as well as great car counts.
Several times 360s have ran in 410 mains. In fact I was at Grays Harbor for an outlaw show and Shawn Rice's 360 made the Outlaw A main.

I just hear alot of conversation walking through the stands at Elma about how much they preferred the 410s over the 360s when they were around. I was wondering if anyone else had heard simpler things. Guess it was just a coincidence i heard so many negative comments all at once.

Far be it for me to be quite on any subject, BUT IMO~~~~~~~~~~and this is only from a fans point of view and from watching from the stands, these past few race seasons the 410 division has been pretty much follow the leader. You almost always know who gets up front is going to win, unless track condtions or crashes happen. Its the way I see it, I am not saying anything about any driver, and I know plenty drivers in that class, for me the 360's thus far are where I see the action. It is just my opinion. The sportsman class has had some awesome races as have the 410 but this year my preference has been the 360 class.

We're only talking a little over 100 hp (& more $) between a 410 & 360 & a tad bit over a 1/2 second a lap.
I say pull the wings off & watch 3 wide racing. Granted, the lap times will be a couple seconds slower( who cares) but the racing is better. JMO

cubic inches is not what makes a race or a particular series good. at least to 'real' race fans. like previously mentioned, those that believe that the 360's are slow and boring are nothing more than 'sprint car snobs'!
been to grays harbor several times this year and haven't heard once from anybody (believe me i talk to quite a few people!) that they miss the 410's. of course everbody looks forward to the WoO show, but they could put 360's in them and people would still be happy to see them.
actaully the best racing at elma this year that i have witnessed was saturday night's show for the nw mod nationals. those cars are three seconds off the sprint pace, but who cares. that was one exciting night of racing.
put competitive cars on the track, see a little three wide racing and that makes for a good show!!!

without a scoreboard telling you the times, 96% of sprint car fans would, to the naked eye, not be able to tell the difference between a 360 and a 410.
maybe someone is making a commentary on the lack of mufflers when the WoO races at Elma??? there is something fantastic about getting hit in the chest with the raw power of open headers...
wingless is interesting--but I've seen some wingless races in Oregon (not the same as SCRA, I know) and they tend to be snoooooooooozers-

Oval Nationals at PAS are just around the corner. It's a good chance to catch some topless racing and So-Cal weather before we get socked in for the winter.

| I actually prefer the 360's to the 410's. They are both very exciting and I do not see how anyone could dislike either. I just like watching anything with open wheels run.

need to start simpson a half a lap back to really make it exciting. he's a **** good driver, but facing no more than an eight car invert makes it less interesting.
point positions 5-10 pill draw for the front three rows, then 1-4 draw for row four and five. keep the top four from starting in the first two rows and possibly starting as far back as tenth. make for much more exciting racing!!!

I think part of being a race fan is wanting to see fast cars. 410's are more fast, thats a simple fact, I hate that they are being phased out. While I agree that great racing happens at lesser speeds, (I love the hornets, but I am biased) I still have a soft spot for those big, cover your ears loud 410's. Maybe it's just me.
I wouldn't think someone was a snob for rather watching 410's, but you wouldn't hear me trash the 360's either.Last edited on Tuesday Aug 26th, 2008 12:25 AM by Skippy

| Some of the coolest images I have of sprint cars are of them at Stoga and Portland(on the dirt) and how fn fast they carried it down into the corners. A good race is a good race that is all that matters to me. You will find people FIND things to complain about. If there is two grooves....there shoulda been 3. If it is dry it coulda been wetter...too wet etc etc. People should be thankful we get to see both (360s and 410s) out here. JMO

WoO is most definately has some some of the fastest drivers on dirt. And I think some folks think it's simply the 410's in them that maks that happen, however, the typical fan that goes to a track doesn't relieze that there is often some local iron blocked 360's in the mix somewere in a A-main. And that some 410's might not make the A.
Like some point out, maybe because they (WoO) spend so much money and get the press, the stigma is they must be better.
The good news is, 99% of us(drivers and fans) enjoy a good race, and that can be any class of racers.
We all have heard groups of fans or racers who are 'stuck" on one class of racers or even one racer. Thankfully there are more of us than them.
As far as wingless racing goes, well for at least our little ol group, for the last 6 years it has always come down to the last race of the season to see who of the top4-5 becomes champion and I think that says a little something for some close packed action.
Tony
