Howdy All,
I was super excited for last weeks wingless sprint/midget race at Willamette. I figured the ODSS (USCA/NOMA) guys would make a good showing and race along side some ASCS regulars that poped their wings off for this race. I brought a family that had never seen a race and promised them a good time. A couple days prior to the race I checked the ODSS site to see if they were hyping the show. Sure enough I found they had recently scheduled a point race at The Grove for the same day. Of course, I went through the roof.
I love all sorts of racing, and any class of any car has the potential to put on a great show. However, I feel the wingless sprints have the most potential for great wheel to wheel "anyone could win it" racing. It's a shame that the politics are killing this awsome class. This does no one any good. Willamette looses car count, and therefore looses fans and drivers for future races. The fans don't show because who wants to pay for the five car field that happened earlier this year. The biggest looser however, is the ODSS. No publicity of their series at a big time stock car track, potentially alienating series drivers that chose to run for bigger payout at Willamette, and turning off many fans like me who hate to see their hobby and passion torn apart by politics.
I fail to see any logic in the moves of the ODSS. They should be grabbing any public attention they can, as they are barely known compared to the big dog ASCS. So what if it's not a sanctioned ODSS race, get people hooked on wingless racing. I don't think the kemo-therepy approach of "hurt everyone and hope your the only one standing in the end" is an effective marketing strategy.
There are two sides to every story I know, but seriously, you're killing me! Long live the ASCS and motorsports as a whole in the Pacific NW.
I signed up for this forum so I could post this.

I was also looking forward to this event till I found out ODSS was at CG the same night. I figured that pretty much split the car count in half and decided it wasn`t worth the trip. I was surprised to see Crockett and some others that normally run wings take them off. I did get to see the ODSS a couple of times this season and they were both good shows. At some point, maybe the "politics" can be put aside at some "nuetral" track, and we can get to see a full field of cars from all the sprint car ranks!
Unfortunatly, we as fans, don`t seem to get what we want because of all the politics, weather it be track vs track, series vs track , or series vs series!

Too bad you guys decided the car count would be bad at Willamette and stayed away. 14 cars in both open wheel divisions treated the fans to some great racing.
The "Fall Classic" at Willamette on Oct 4th looks to be a great race.

| You may be right about the racing being good. But you made my point with the car count. If ODSS had not scheduled against it, fans could have seen maybe 30- 35 cars......full A and B mains. It could have been a bigger event than it was. I would think most fans like myself who have to travel a distance to the tracks are really weighing the positives VS the negatives these days before going and spending all their "fun money" on gas.

| Good news is that everybody is done by October, so the car counts you crave should happen. But big numbers do not always guarantee a good show.
