I think I'm gonna run at I-55 tonight on my PS2.  I got a call about 5 mins after I posted last time confirming the rain out.

I think they called the races way to early tonight. At 4:00 p.m. here in Aberdeen, It is almost dry from the rain and blue sky. Looks like the race could have been tonight.  It might have taken a little time to get the track dry, but still could have raced. To say the least, I am very disappointed they canceled so early.

At the time that they made the call to cancel tonite's races it was pouring down rain, I don't know what condition the track was in but 4:30 right now and stopped raining, little breeze and the sun peaked out a couple of minutes ago, I agree with Racenut that they called it early, but at that time they also had to make a decision for some of the teams traveling in from Seattle area or traveling from the south to make a final decision.  Hate being in that position and having to make a call, maybe they looked at the doppler radar and didnt look to promising or somethin, but if they canceled it they did it for a reason, maybe the track was to wet and they didnt think they could work it in to get tonite's races underway.

I must respectfully disagree.

Cancel early and lose some  $$ but cut your losses.

Or stick it out and hold a race in front of 28 fans because everyone more than 30 minutes away stayed home and lose TONS of $$.

The purse, employee wages, electric bill, insurance, etc has to be paid whether there's 28 butts in the stands or 2800

That choice is no choice at all.

The weather in King/Pierce County was rotten all day and thru the evening.  Doubtful too many fans from up there would have risked the trip in such questionable weather.

Just My Humble Opinion of course

Here's my 2 cents. My kids were following the weather forecast on websites.  All indications were that it would rain during the day and clear up in the evening.  Looking at Doppler radar, it also indicated the same.  We showed up at 3 pm ready to set up camp and enjoy a good night of racing, only to see that cars were leaving.  After calling the track phone to confirm, I was less than happy especially since we could see blue sky over Aberdeen moving towards Elma.  Through the years, I can’t ever recall a decision to call the races that early when there is a good chance of dry weather.  My thoughts go with fans and especially the drivers who made the trip only to be sent home in the sunshine.  I think this will be a learning lesson for future events.

I can tell you that in addition to the rain and wet weather - there was also a good cold front that came through.  The temperature dropped a ton from earlier that morning.  Our racers were scrambling to leave just to warm up after we called ours for rain.

As much as I wanted to see sprint cars run - the thought of sitting in the stands that night after being wet earlier was not appealing.  They made the right call.

I need a suite ticket!:?

Or, another scenario is that Larry Kelly was afraid to face his adversary and gets light headed at the site of blood - especially his own!

TJ is looking for you Larry - he has a nice hoop style waiting!

Well boys and girls, I will tell ya what I saw..I came into the track on friday afternoon to sun and wind. Shawn was pouring water on the track all afternoon to keep up with it so it would not dry out. As the sun started to go down you could feel the chill and the weather coming..By the early morning hours it was raining off and on.. The off and on mist and showers continued till about noon and then it started letting go..It rained hard for probably and hour and a half steady. The track was sloppy wet as was the pits. At approx 2:30 is when they called it I think and it was pouring rain and the wind was probably blowing 25 mph+. Now anyone that knows Fred knows that he will probably wait a rain shower out longer than any promoter around but it was just to wet to continue. Fred really wanted and actually needed to get this show in as the fans were in for a big surprise. Something big is building and I think he is about to release it..More on this in a different post.. Bottom line here is that nobody was more disappointed it was cancelled than me but I fully understand the reason. :(

Well let's put it this way, at 6 o'clock after I got off work, I went out to check the track out and see what it looked liked.  Pits were dry, all the track needed to be done was packed down and hot laps ran on it at 6pm.  Now granite I know at 2:30 when they called it it was pouring down rain and had been for about an hour or so, but didnt anyone check the doppler radar and look towards the coast and see nothin but nice weather.  About the people coming down from Tacoma/Seattle area, what about those people with season tickets who already paid to see that race.  So that race wouldn't of started until around 8 or so, but I know alot of people that I talked to that night were not happy at all looking at sunshine on a saturday night during race season and not be at the track watching a race.

More 2 cents.  I’ve got to say, I was driving through the camping area when I got the message that the race was officially cancelled.  I did a U-Turn and just started heading back home.  Man I was bummed.  Kids and wife suggested that since we’re packed, let’s go to the beach.  Got to the beach and found out  there was a clam dig.  Never been successful at digging clams before (guess it’s a tide thing ;)), so went out and bought a clam tube.  Took my aggression from the missed race out on digging calms.  Sand was justa flyin'.  Had our limit of 45 in about a ½ hour.  Got to eat like a king last night.

Where did you go clam digging at, cuz my father and I went clam digging also except we both had our limit in about 15 minutes each and we were using clam digging shovels.  With the rain out had to come up with something to do, and that was what we decided to do and wouldnt u know it, it was nice at the beach besides the wind was gusting about 15-20 mph.
