| I know the big guys do it or get it alot but what about the fireworks during the 4 abreast parade lap. It seemed too almost mean more with the NST than the big guys...... always had a different meaning each time we were treated to it as well.

That's a name I haven't heard in a LOOOOONG time, Michelle. Really enjoyed watching Casey run in the black & green 73 car. Really sad day when he passed away (at such a young age too).

| Army participation is always awesome. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up (along with the smell of methanol) during the helicopter fly-overs, hum-vee’s and striker vehicle presentations; and listing to the experiences of those guys and girls. My brother is in the Air force. I keep bugging him about sending a stealth bomber or two overhead. A little competition is always good.

Thanks for the memories guys. Good luck to the future series.

That was the first one that came to my mind! Ricky was up in the stands and Fred Ranard asked him if he had ever been thru a plywood sign before. He replyed "ummmm ya". Ahhh good times!

I remember the 1st year of speedweek driving from Medford to Cottage Grove on Tuesday morning with our van and load of fans ... passing Fred & Debbie in the motorhome..... Fred gave his wave and that smile that we all know so well. You could see that he was in the midst of fullfilling one of his dreams that week and was happy to have people along with him. ...........................

| There are so many good memories from the series, hate to see it go away. Couple that I haven't seen anyone mention yet was Jayme Barnes in 2003 during speedweek ending California's win streak. My other favorite memory in 2002 the night before the Big E weekend when Jason Solwold made a last lap pass on Shawna. So much memories this year especially with all the first time winners, Bergman, Jacobson, Horner, Van Dam and even Jason Sides. This year was probably the most competive year of racing the Northern Sprint Tour seen and really went out with a bang, hope the new series produces the same results.

I think the announcer makes the race for the fans and Fred does that. I hope his future plans will include the new series.

Without fail, over the last 20 years, no one in Northwest Auto Racing has announced in front of more people than Fred Rannard. That so many of you can quote his best lines is a testimony to his popularity and longevity in the sport.
To have memories linked to your career with the NST as Fred has, is a great salute to one of the all-time great Sprint Car Announcers.

| My favorite NST memory was several years ago when Dale Smith won his first NST race at Elma. It rained all day and the staff was comited to run the race. I drove there from the grove and thought there was no way they could get the race in. The track was very fast and Jay Smith led most of the race. Dale hawked him the whole race and with I think 2 laps to go Dale passed Jay and then instantly Jay Smith ran out of gas. My friend and I and the Morelock family I think were the only people in the stands cheering for Dale. Great race...

Favorite memory was the last ever sprintcar race at Portland (dirt).
Rick Fauver was lined up way back in a car that was way smaller $ than most every other car. Track went dry slick. Guys were clawing at the pole and what little cushion there was. Here come Ricky, right through the middle slick stuff, passing one car after another. I believe he ended up with a podium finish.
It was great to see a guy with such a reputation as a gasser, use such an awesome setup and throttle control to beat teams with way better equipment than his.

Okay I have thought about this topic and thought about it and I have a favorite memory.
At our first NW Speedweek event in 2003 my wife turned to me and said, "Next year I want to take my vacation and see all of the NW Speedweek races." Now that is a great wife.

What about Fanfest? 05 & 06 - Was really nice to see drivers, crews, fans and NST staff doing a bit of interacting and enjoying themselves.
(man that Larry can dance can't he
I can only hope that the Evergreen State Sprint Challenge at GHR continues and we have the opportunity to do it again.

One of my first encounters with Fred and the officials happened at GHR and set the tone for the rest of my time with NST. In the first year I made a point to stay out of the way and just shoot. However, I noticed that Fred was continually congregating around the back end of a pick-up truck with the officials. My curiosity finally got the best of me and I wandered over to see what was so critical that it required this much attention from everyone – they were seriously consuming a large sack of Oreos.

The engine should arrive in McCleary next week from SCREAM.
Don't say anything to Seth that I added about 6" of lead in the bottom of his tail tank, it should slow him down enough so us "old guys" can keep up

Are you grouping me in with you as an "old guy"??? Now if you were to say that I could use a weight advantage I might agree with you but, "old" never! But thanks BT I need all the help I can get and would never tell Seth.

And soon after, the first batch of home baked "Frannie" cookies arrived at the first of several NST shows.

One year for the WoO races I rented a 600mm f/2.8 lens and climbed up on the top of the annoucers building to shoot. I took the opportunity to just "cruise" around looking through the lens and caught Fred scarfing on some homemade peanut brittle I had brought for the infield. He had his hand in the sack up to his elbow...
