THE CHECKERED FLAG LEGACY!

Eleven seasons of fierce competition is all wrapped up now, so here's wishing a very fond farewell from the Northern Sprint Tour to the fans and participants who have made NST an award-winning and memorable part of the Northwest racing scene.

First of all, I'd like to thank the promoters of the racetracks that took a chance on booking shows with us!

                Capital Raceway, Edmonton, AB
                Bridge County Raceway, Lethbridge, AB
                Grays Harbor Raceway, Elma WA
                Skagit Speedway, Alger, WA
                Willamette Speedway, Lebanon, OR
Cottage Grove Speedway, Cottage Grove, OR
                Southern Oregon Speedway, Medford, OR
Electric City Speedway, Great Falls, MT
                MetraPark, Billings, MT
                Magic City Speedway, Billings, MT
                State Fair Raceway, Yakima, WA
                Portland Speedway, Portland, OR

I would also like to thank every single race team that participated throughout the years, and ESPECIALLY the gutsy teams that committed to entire seasons. I am way too lazy to list the hundreds of names, but you know who you are. Your support was invaluable. It was a pleasure to have you powering the series. Fred enjoyed bossing you all around! He was so proud of the way you all conducted yourselves, and how the  atmosphere and presentation at (most) NST races was one of professional cooperation, fierce competition, honest confrontation and mostly just good times. I wish nothing but perfect running engines, smooth tracks and fine weather for all of you NST race teams as you continue your racing endeavors.

Our generous sponsors were vitally important to the development and continuation of the tour: HOOSIER,  Hy-per-lube, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco, Don Ott Racing Engines, Beitler Performance, The Sprint Shop, SpeedMart, Advanced Sprint Car, VMAC, JB, DSR, KSE, Brodix, Weld, Kinsler, Design 500, RaceCals, Outerwears, Butch Overby Racing Magnetos and Fuel Safe. Please continue to support these companies!

Many thanks to Fred's loyal and hard working staff who got the job done, just for the love of racing: First of all, my hat's off to George Hespe, who has the distinction of being the ONLY staff member or sprint car driver who attended every Northern Sprint Tour event ever held! How amazingly loyal! And we could never repay Larry Kelley, Lynn Rogers, Bruce Forrester, Jake Francis, Jim Dennis, Fred Rannard, Ken Garcia, Travis Brearty, Fran Engelcke, Josh Belgum, Joel Dennis, Kristin Kelley and Ryan Kelley; you guys are the best! Also from years past; Mike Troy, Fred Gibson, Keith Kammerzell, Mike Lozensky, Darren Miles, Steve Ahnert, John Burt, Charis Towers, Nikki Brearty, Randy Pratt, Rob Pratt, Tyson Cross; we couldn't have come this far without you! And last but certainly not least, Debbie Kelley, Cheryl Dennis and Mary Jo DuBeau. Our kids and their spouses were put to work as well...Carrie, Jessica, Shelby and Ty. Job well done, all of you. If I forgot someone, just know it wasn't on purpose and bring it to my attention so I can edit this script!

With this chapter of race history closing, we all have a legacy of cherished memories to look back on, friendships to keep and champions to identify with. Like you, I eagerly look forward to seeing what the future of sprint car racing in the Great Northwest has in store.

Our best wishes go to Shawna Wilskey as she launches her Northwest Sprint Challenge Series for the 2007 race season. I hope she has as much fun with it as Fred and I did with the Northern Sprint Tour.

Take Care.

Debbie Brownfield and family

Debbie, we shouldn't be thanked-you and Fred are the movers and shakers of the NST's and Grays Harbor Raceway, AND WE THANK YOU.

Without the Brownfields, the Northwest would be segregated into the microclimates of the local sprint car communitys-racers who would never guess that traveling to the various tracks of a prestigous series could open up so many doors to bigger and better things! Not to mention all the fun-Debbie presents, practical jokes (Rutz driving license!), and what seemed like 6 inches of rain in Montana!

And lastly, it is our honor to have known Fred, his wife, and his awesome, awesome staff. I will miss it so much.

If Shawna and her staff can pull this series off with the same standards Fred set-this will be the #1 series in the USA.  And I think she can.

Can't wait till next year.

Michelle

Debbie, like others have said, we need to thank you, so I will Thank you Debbie for the memories, thank you and Fred for allowing my kids and I the chance to work for you, and for the fun times we had at Skagit Speedway, thank you for bringing us into your home, thank you for the hugs and words of encouragement when I needed it, thank you and Fred for the wonderful and fun show you ran wherever you went but mostly thank you for the opportunity to know two of the most wonderful people I have ever met in my whole life.  I will cherish these memories always.  May you find peace and happiness whereever you go or whatever you do.

I have no doubt that Shawna will do whatever it takes to run a class act program as the Brownfields have.
