MORIARITY WINS RACE #2 OF THE BIG 4 MINI SERIES AT SSS
South Sound Speedway
Rochester, WA

Warm weather, clear blue skies and another good night of racing, Saturday, July 12, 2008, at South Sound Speedway.
The Super Stocks saw 16 cars make an attempt to qualify. It was Olympia, Washington’s #17 Bob Presley setting fast time with a 13.625. The last race’s Driver of the Week was Bremerton, Washington’s #52 AJ Fugitt. The winner of their Trophy Dash was the #1 Rod Schultz, JR.
The #22 Mitch Franklin would bring the field around for the green flag start, but it was the #1 Schultz, JR who would lead the first 27 laps with Tom Moriarity right on his back bumper. On lap 28, Monroe, Washington’s #5 Moriarity, driving the Brock Rentals Inc/Total Machine Concepts Chevrolet Monte Carlo would take away the lead from Schultz, JR. with a pass to the inside and the #9 Kelly Mann following him through. Moriarity and Mann would stay nose to tail until lap 140 when Mann spun to avoid a lapped car. Moriarity would go on to win the 150-Lap, race two, of the Big 4 Mini Series at the West Coast’s fastest 3/8’s mile paved oval. Rounding out their top five were runner up Schultz, JR., Doug Davidson, Mann, and Dan Rhodes.
The Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks saw the #17 Bill Hayes win their Trophy Dash. The top three in their A-Heat were winner #56 Dennis Shaffer, Jon Baglien, and Kyle Matthews. The top three in their B-Heat were winner #57 Jerry LaPlante, Hayes, and Jeff Bracale.
The #57 LaPlante would bring the 12 car field around for the start and lead the first seven laps. Hayes would lead lap eight until he was passed by the #19 Baglien on lap nine. Baglien and Shaffer would battle back and forth with Shaffer leading lap 16 and Baglien taking the lead back on lap 17. Baglien would lead Shaffer around for the next five laps. Then, Tacoma, Washington’s #56 Dennis Shaffer, driving the AMC Pacer would retake the lead on lap 23 and go on to win the Mini Stock 25-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Baglien, Kyle Matthews, Devin Matthews, and Hayes.
The Washington Midget Racing Association saw Vader, Washington’s #25 Brea Lopez set fast time with a 13.168. The winner of their Trophy Dash was the #50 Evan Margeson. The top three in their A-Heat were winner Margeson, Lopez, and Tony Seidelman. The top three in their B-Heat were winner Mitch Hoffses, Logan Forler, and Rick Brown.
The #44 Seidelman would bring the field around for the start of the 25-Lap Main Event and lead the first five laps. On lap six, Tacoma, Washington’s #50 Margeson would make a pass for the lead and go on to win the Midgets Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Mark Atkinson, Lopez, Seidelman, and Mitch Hoffses.
The WESCO Sprint Cars saw the #15 Craig Deaver set fast time with a 12.366. The winner of their Trophy Dash was the #71 Kirk Ecklund. The top three in their Heat #1 were winner C. Deaver, Rally Root, and Ralph Deaver. The top three in their Heat #2 were winner Kyle Secord, Ecklund, and Forrest Meadows.
The #10 Brandon Skeeters would bring the sprints around for the start of their 25-Lap Main Event but it was the #01 Root who would lead the first 11 laps. On lap 12, #15 C. Deaver would move in to the lead and go onto win their Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Root, Rich Leighty, Doug McLees, and Secord.
Upcoming racing at South Sound Speedway: Saturday, July 19, 2008 features the Big Rigs, Limited Late Models, NWOSS, and Pro 4 Trucks. Then on Saturday, July 26, 2008, come see the Super Stock 100, Vintage Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, and the Baby Grands compete.
