Once a year, the North American Big Rigs make a trip down south to the West Coast’s fastest 3/8’s mile paved oval to see their old buddy, Butch Behn.

Airdrie, Alberta, Canada’s #63 Peter Van Dyck set fast time with an 18.582. The #04 Darren Berdahl won their A Trophy Dash and the #26 Darwin Berdahl won their B Trophy Dash. The top three in their 1st Heat were winner #26 Darwin Berdahl, Ron Singer, and Terrill Schmidt. The top three in their 2nd Heat were winner #04 Darren Berdahl, Glen Creed, and Bobby Fowler.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada’s #71 Singer would bring the field around for the green flag start and lead the first lap. The #13 Schmidt would take his turn up front and lead the next three laps until the #58 Cam Sully would drive by Schmidt to take the lead. Sully would lead until Eckville, Alberta, Canada’s #04 Darren Berdahl, driving the Hellbound Services/Calgary Diesel Services/Rebel Metal Fabricators/Sully’s Mechanical took away the lead from Sully on lap 17. Darren Berdahl would go on to win the Big Rig 35-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Sully, Van Dyck, Creed, and Darwin Berdahl.

The Quality Car Care Limited Late Models saw 14 cars make an attempt to qualify. There were eight crate and six compression engines. It was Centralia, Washington’s #11 JJ Hamilton setting fast time with a 13.745 with a crate engine. The last Limited Late Model race Driver of the week was #38 Chad Hinkle. Winning their Trophy Dash was #1 Shane Sawin.

The 50-Lap Main Event saw #91 Arlyn Long bring the field down for the green flag start and take the early lead with Hinkle all over his back bumper. The #11 JJ “The Crate Motor Kid” Hamilton, driving the Northstar Home Mortgage/Norpac Street Performance/Auto Trim Design Dodge Charger would work his was from his seventh place starting position to second place to put pressure on Long for the lead. On lap 28, Hamilton worked his way underneath Long going into turn one and took the lead away. Hamilton never looked back and went on to win his second Limited Late Model Main Event of the season. Hamilton, driving for Mike Barrett Motorsports said that they tested during the week and the car was junk. Mike and the crew took the car back to the shop and went to work on it. “I can’t say Thanks enough to them because their hard work in the shop made my job easy tonight”, Hamilton said. Rounding out their top five were runner up Shane Sawin, Jon Hubbert, Leon Ames, and Hinkle.

The Northwest Outlaw Street Stocks saw #15 Michael Knutson set fast time with a 15.727. The winner of their Trophy Dash was #93 Brad Borton. The top three in their 1st Heat were winner #14 Mike Saylors, Roger Drake, and Josh Wilson. The top three in their 2nd Heat were winner #40 Jason Ogle, Bryan Grant, and Kevin Carver.

The #91 Wilson would bring the field around for the start, but it was the #6 Gary Homad leading the first 13 laps. On lap 14, Spanaway, Washington’s #41 Kevin Carver, driving the Transmission Sales and Service 1972 Chevrolet Camaro, would move by Homad with #75 Mike Easley hot in pursuit. Easley never could make the pass for the lead and Carver would go on to win the NWOSS 75-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Easley, Homad, Borton, and Bryon Goetz.

The Northwest Pro-4 Trucks saw #22 Jason Majors set a New Track Record with a 15.764. The winner of their Trophy Dash was #88 Jeff Hector. The top three in their A-Heat were winner Majors, Steve Pryor, and Jim Milligan. The top three in their B-Heat were winner Kevin Bell, Mike Wiley, and Lanthan Kelley.

The #5 Bell would bring the field around for the start and lead the first seven laps until #17 Wiley took away the lead. Wiley would lead the next four laps. On lap 12, the #4 Pete Brady would move past Wiley for the lead and lead the next two laps. Current point’s leader, #22 Jason Majors would wrestle away the lead from Brady on lap 14. Majors would go on to win the Pro 4 trucks 30-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Brady, Wiley, Bell and Hector.

Upcoming racing at South Sound Speedway: Saturday, July 26, 2008 features the Super Stock 100, Vintage Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Baby Grands. Then on Saturday, August 2, 2008, come see the Limited Late Models, Vintage Sprints, Super 4’s, Mini Cup Future Stars, and the Bumblebees compete.
