SIX IN A ROW FOR MORIARITY
South Sound Speedway

Overcast and sprinkles didn’t dampen a good night of racing at South Sound Speedway on Saturday, July 26, 2008.
The Super Stocks saw Olympia, Washington’s #17 Bob Presley set fast time with a 13.485.
The #52 AJ Fugitt would bring the field around for the green flag start, but it was the #95 Rod Schultz, SR who started on the outside of the front row jumping into the early lead. By lap 25, Monroe, Washington’s #5 Tom Moriarity, driving the Brock Rentals Inc/Total Machine Concepts, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, coming from his 7th place starting position, to second in hot pursuit of Schultz, SR. On lap 30, Moriarity made a pass on the outside for the lead and went on to win the Super Stocks 100-Lap Main Event, his 6th win in a row this season. Rounding out their top five were runner up Tom Sweatman, Rod Schultz, JR., Fugitt, and Tommy Elstoen.
The Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks saw no qualifying Saturday night. Their Heat races and Main Event were lined up by the season’s point standings.
The top three in their A Heat were winner #14 Reggie Gill, Kyle Matthews, and Doug Shaffer. The top three in their B Heat were winner #1 Duane Lacy, Bill Hayes, and Jeff Elliott.
The #4 Elliott would bring the field down for the start, but it was the #57 Jerry LaPlante leading the first three laps. Elliott would take the lead on lap four, until Tacoma, Washington’s #14 Gill, driving the Applebees of Chehalis and Olympia/Havin’ Fun Stitchin’, Ford Mustang would take away the lead from Elliott on lap five. Current point leader Gill would go on to win his 6th Main Event of the season. Rounding out their top five were runner up Shaffer, Lacy, K. Matthews, and Tabby Bracale.
The Northwest Baby Grands saw Bothell, Washington’s #39 Lash Larew set fast time with a 15.060. The top three in their A Heat were winner Larew, Brandon Barlow, and Brooke Lefor. The top three in their B Heat were winner #24 AJ Butler, Mark Boles, and Brian Balmelli.
The #10 Steven Daskam would bring the field around for the start of their 25-Lap race and led the first lap. The #23 Michael Millard-Perales passed Daskam on lap two and took his turn up front. On lap 10, Gig Harbor, Washington’s #24 Butler, driving the Xtreme Graphics/Steve Blankenship Trucking, Chevrolet Monte Carlo made a pass for the lead and drove away to his 3rd straight Baby Grand Main Event of the season. Rounding out their top five were runner up Lefor, Cody Stewart, Larew, and Barlow.
The Hinkle Homes Pure Stocks saw no qualifying this week with the line up set by the points. The top three in their A Heat were winner #27 Brian Wilson, Kenny Erickson, and Rick Casebolt. The top three in their B Heat were winner #52 Jeff Boheler, Jay Henderson, and Matt Duffey.
The #54 Henderson would bring the field around for the green flag start of their 25-Lap race and lead the first 10 laps. On lap 11, the #4 Leon Collins would make a pass for the lead on Henderson. Collins looked like he was on his way to win his second Main Event of the season, but, going into turn three on the white flag, Longview, Washington’s #15 Dan Walker, driving the D & S Light Truck and Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro, made a move to the inside of Collins and took away the lead coming out of turn four heading for the checkered flag. Walker would win his 3rd Pure Stock Main Event of the season. Rounding out their top five were runner up Collins, Wilson, Don Briggs, JR., and Henderson.
The Vintage Modifieds saw the #03 Jim Jones set fast time with a 15.083. The top three in their A Heat were winner #7 Mike Clother, Josh Wyne, and Bob Fulmer. The top three in their B Heat were winner #42 Charlie West, JR., Chuck Peterson, and John Mustered.
The #42 West, JR. would bring the field around for the start, but it was the #03 Jones going on to win the Vintage Modified 30-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Keil Hobbs, West, JR., Fulmer, and Clother.
Upcoming racing at South Sound Speedway: Saturday, August 2, 2008 features the Limited Late Models, Vintage Sprints, Super 4’s, Mini Cup Future Stars, and Bumblebees. Then on Saturday, August 9, 2008, come see the Super Stock Miller 200, Mini Stocks, and Baby Grands compete.
