PHRA to River City Speedway for two nights

ST. HELENS, Ore. - The Pacific Hardtop Racing Association will return to action Labor Day weekend at River City Speedway in St. Helens, Ore.
PHRA was originally scheduled to only have a points race on Sunday, August 31. The club and River City Speedway, however, recently agreed to hold a non-points show at the track on Saturday, August 30. Thanks to sponsorships, the non-points affair on Saturday will have a purse and fans going both nights will see two complete nights of dwarf car action on the little ¼-mile clay oval located at the Columbia County Fairgrounds.
Corey Esteban, the former PHRA champion and current points leader, will go into Sunday’s race with a 200 point advantage over former champion Richard Petty. The club has run three times at River City Speedway this season and Esteban has won twice, May 17 and June 21. He finished second to Macky Cushing in a close race at River City Speedway on July 26. Esteban has six point race victories and another win in a show-up points only race, giving him seven total this year. Esteban has won the last three races, all clean sweeps.
Sitting third in points, 34 behind Petty, is Rick Adams, who has three total victories this season to his credit. Mitch Meeuwsen sits fourth in points with one victory, a non-points triumph at Coos Bay Speedway. Charles Millar, another former club champion, is fifth in points.
This weekend’s races are the PHRA’s last at River City Speedway for 2008. PHRA makes its first appearance at Willamette Speedway on September 13 and then closes its season at Madras Speedway on September 20.
