The Dickenson Motorsports team sends a big thankyou for staging the open comp midget race over this last weekend. We had a great time. And it was very encouraging (to say the least!!) to hear that this type of racing may have a future at Sunset Speedway.

I gotto ask, did you relly enjoy that dry slick one lane track?????? I mean, I know you had some real tuff competition and all (3 cars finshed the main) to deal with.

I told all the drivers of our club what to set up for the week before and I was dead on. That place doesn't want you there, they need you there to put butts in the stands, but only having less than a half dozen cars follow each other around won't keep them watching.

The "racers" showed up and raced while the "politicians" sat wringing their hands. In fact some of the politicians were wringing their hands in the stands after helping support the show by virtue of buying their pit pass. And the racers thank you for helping out with the purse. Every "butt in the seat" helped.

I will not bicker on this fine forum.

You dogded the question Mr.Hoffman, just as any politican would.

For me and our team, I was not going to burn up a pair of tires , (wich is exactly what a dry slick parking lot does) for Ralph Punchacar, period. You may have never been mistreated by him and if that is the case, then great for you.

I did buy a pit pass when I really didn't need to. Some of our novice drivers looking to gain some more laps called me, some looking for advice. As a racer, I took what little free time I do have for my family to help these guys out because I did not want them to tear up there cars. And the Sprint main clearly showed the skill of our drivers.

As a matter of fact, the only sprinter to have an issue was a non- USCA sprinter. HMMMMM.

So, Mr Hoffman, will you ansewer the origanal question? Did you truely enjoy the racing surface and the competion, or lack of?

Tony

Could the track have been better, of course. Did we enjoy ourelves? You bet we did. It was Saturday and we were racing. Wish more racers would have shown up.

Just wondering if you race with the NOMA group this year?

Mr. Hoffman, I will never argue the fact that Sunset Speedway does have some of the best fans around. The track is probably one of the nicest dirt tracks around with the facilities on the grandstand side and up close seating for all of us who do enjoy a little dirt at the bottom of a beer.

With it local so close to a huge population it could be a great venue. It has been standing room only in the past. That is simply a fact that is simple for anyone to see.

My personal issues with this track is it's manager and one of the owners and their opions towards open wheel racing. (young andy there probably considers dwarf cars and mods because he sees the tires).

I, like you, would love to put on a good show there, and could do so and have tried to arange that this year. The fundalmental differance would be prep that would allow sprints and midgets to really race and not burp the trottle and ride the brakes. I know you understand this coment. What makes a great surface for a 3500lb 350hp stock car doesn't always make the best for a 900lb 400hp midget or a sprint car.

I point this out in hopes that you undrstand that my origanal question was asked not as some personal attack and I understand that you were happy to get to race and that was great.

Probably best if I leave it at that.

Andie, I'll pm you.

Tony.

Thats cool that ya had a good time SandM.  Hopefully they get things straightened out there(with the open wheel people) and can have more races in the future.  The last time I was there(two years ago) the car I worked on won the race...and I felt that the track really didnt welcome us there.  Be that as it may...people change.

Unfortunately no. Our aluminum blocked Pontiac motor isn't legal to run with the group. We ran with NOMA for three years and were champs in '05 with an iron block. When the iron block expired, it became evident that the aluminum blocks were more plentiful (cheaper), so we made the switch.

That's one of the reasons Saturday was fun, we got to reconnect with some guys we used to run with. And hope to again.
