Peru, Indiana- April 30, 2008…After battling through the Mid-West weather like many other drivers during this early season, Brownsburg, Indiana’s Colton Brown was finally able to get a race in and he capped it off with a sixth place finish in the A-main event.
Brown, who works for Tony Stewart Racing’s United States Auto Club team, is competing aboard a Mini Sprint on a regular basis for the first time, after years of running in karts. The 16 year-old had the chance to rent a Mini Sprint last season and test it out before jumping into it full-on this year.
The ’08 season started with three rainouts for Brown, but the weather gods finally cooperated on Saturday night April 26 and he was able to compete in his first event of the year. Running at the Miami County Speedway in Peru, IN he lined up ninth on the grid in his heat race and after getting by a couple cars early on, both got back by and at the checkered flag he finished where he started.
The ninth place finish in the heat race set Brown up to start in the fifth row for the main event. While battling a loose race car he was still able to do a solid job and move forward to bring home a sixth place finish during his first night out. “The car just didn’t have any traction getting off the corners in the main event and I really had to be careful,” Brown said. “But hey it was my first race and I think it went really good so we’ll take it.”
