Tyler Walker wins exciting Chris & Brian Faria Memorial
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – May 10, 2008…In the world of sprint car racing few drivers are more exciting that Los Angeles’ Tyler Walker and San Jose’s Tim Kaeding. The pair always seem to get that extra little bit out of their machines and both were at it again Saturday night at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway during the annual Chris & Brian Faria Memorial.
When all was said and done it was Walker who came out on top to score his second Golden State Challenge Series win of the season. “I just can’t say enough about this SC Motorsports team,” Walker said. “Lee and the guys have this thing running phenomenal and I’m so happy to be able to race out here with guys like Tim Kaeding. The track was awesome tonight and it gave us a chance to really do some racing.”
The 30 lap Chris & Brian Faria Memorial main event started out with Campbell’s Brent Kaeding jumping out into the lead. The defending King of California was in search of his first season win and would lead the first seven laps before T. Kaeding began to apply the pressure. “TK” was riding the rim of the well prepared 1/3 mile clay oval and shot to the lead on the ninth circuit aboard the Tom Rolfe Trucking No. 10. “BK” wasn’t done just yet however, and he slid back below the No. 10 car to get side by side with him a lap later, but “TK” got the momentum he needed to take over the lead without any questions on lap 11.
As the two Kaeding’s were battling it out for the lead Walker was putting his nose into the action and would power around the elder Kaeding for the runner-up spot on the 12th lap. The driver of the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 then began to reel in the No. 10 car and the pair proceeded to put on a show for the fans as they manhandled their 850 horsepower sprinters around the high side of the Thunderbowl Raceway. As they battled it out through traffic Walker completed the pass on the 19th lap and held onto the top spot until a caution flag waved on 22nd circuit.
Over the final eight laps of the feature Walker and T. Kaeding traded slide job after slide job as the crowd cheered them on with approval. With Willie Williams' white flag in hand Walker got enough separation to give him the breathing room he needed to drive off and pick up his first career Chris & Brian Faria Memorial victory. With the win Walker became just the second driver to win multiple main events with GSC this season.
Tim Kaeding drove on to pick up a runner-up finish, his third straight result of second or better with the series. “We gave it a shot and just got beat by Tyler tonight," T. Kaeding said. “We had some changes in our crew this week and we’re just going go out the rest of the season and try to have some fun.” Completing the podium was Brent Kaeding who has run consistently in the top three over the last month in his Al’s Roofing Supply No. 69. “We were pretty good but those guys up front are just running so well right now it’s tough to beat them,” B. Kaeding said.
Rounding out the top 10 in the feature were Craig Stidham, Bud Kaeding, Tommy Tarlton, Ronnie Day, Jonathan Allard, Stephen Allard and Evan Suggs.
The Western States Modifieds saw a fantastic main event as well with Kenny Nott ending up as the winner followed by last row starter Bobby Hogue, current point leader Brian Cass and Paul Stone. The racing fast and furious throughout the pack as the dirt mods put on a breathtaking show. Full results will be available at http://www.westenrracer.com

Bud Kaeding motors on to another top 5 with GSC
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – May 10, 2008…Campbell’s Bud Kaeding continued his recent string of consistency on Saturday night at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway and picked up yet another top five finish with the Golden State Challenge Series. The result marks Kaeding’s fifth top five with the traveling 410 series in the last six events and he continues to show improvement as the weeks go on.
Although not a win the 28 year-old had one his most exciting runs of the season at the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial as he put on a show charging around the high-scary side of the speedway aboard the BK Motorsports, Kaeding Performance Maxim. Lining up sixth in the 30 lap feature he immediately set the car to the top and drove around the second row starters in exciting fashion to carve his way up to third.
After about four laps Kaeding would get loose up top and fall back to around sixth, but began to regroup and sliced back into fifth on a lap seven restart. The two-time and defending USAC Silver Crown champ continued to work the high line trying to get everything possible out of the car and as the laps ticked off he started to make some noise. Following a restart on lap 22 Kaeding shot around Craig Stidham to claim fourth and then proceeded to close in on father Brent for a podium spot.
With just five laps remaining in the race Bud utilized a beautiful move to get around Brent and put the Alviso Rock, K & N Filters No. 29 into third, but a caution shortly thereafter neglected the pass. The final laps of the feature saw him get back by Brent for third at one point before losing the spot and battling it out with Craig Stidham over the final couple laps. Kaeding lost traction and Stidham was able to get by and relegate him back to fifth, which is where he would go on and finish at the checkered flag.
Although he would have like to get on the podium it was a great run nonetheless as Kaeding looked as good as he's had the last couple season's with the wing on, showing no fear running up against the fence on the racy surface. The Campbell driver also competed on Friday night aboard the Werbach Motorsports No. 20 sprinter and brought home a fourth place finish in the main event at the Ocean Speedway. He’ll return to the cockpit of the 20 machine next Friday for another 360 point race before heading to Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway for the 18th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.
Saturday’s 18th annual event will be packing much prize money as it’s the most lucrative one night stop on the Golden State Challenge Series schedule. The annual race pays tribute to Dave Bradway Jr. who lost his life at Skagit’s Dirt Cup in 1987. The Bradway Memorial will mark GSC Round 12 and every event during the night will have something special attached to it. As of now fast time will pay an amazing $1,200 to win on Saturday courtesy multiple people who have put the extra money up. In addition to that heat race prizes will be given out from Hoserville, lap money has been gathered by Dave & Diane Durica and a $500 bonus to the hard charger in the main event has been put up by Dan Simpson. All in all it should make for a can't miss night of racing.
Kaeding drove the BK Motorsports No. 29 to a 10th place finish a couple Friday’s ago at Silver Dollar Speedway and will look to improve on that night during the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. Please stop by the rig after the races and check out our new T-shirts. For more pictures and news log onto http://www.budkaedingracing.com

Jonathan Allard finishes 2nd in Chico & 8th in Tulare
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – May 10, 2008…Just one week after picking up his first Golden State Challenge Series win of the season, current point Jonathan Allard came back this past weekend and had an up and down go of it at a pair of his favorite tracks. Despite having a tough night on Saturday the Chico driver will maintain a steady lead in the GSC Series standings going into next weekend’s Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.
Allard began the weekend with another Feather Falls Casino point race at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway. The last couple Friday’s had ended with him being upside down, but this go around found a much better night as he very nearly picked up another win. The ’06 King of California kicked off the night in grand fashion by blistering the quarter-mile in 11.551 seconds to score fast time aboard the Williams Motorsports, Red Line Oil No. 0.
A fifth place finish in the opening heat transferred him into the 25 lap main event where he lined up from the third row. Allard got up into third early on before making a great low side pass during a lap 14 restart to get under Kyle Hirst and move to second. He then had a long ways to go to catch up to leader Andy Forsberg, but a caution with just a handful of laps remaining gave him a shot.
Allard hounded Forsberg over the next few laps and any mistake by the No. 92 car would give him the shot he needed. The track was lightning fast and the only way to do anything was in traffic, but that chance never came and Allard had to settle for a second place finish as Forsberg won his first Chico feature of the year.
On Saturday Allard and Williams Motorsports headed down to the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway for the GSC sanctioned Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. At the start of the night however, engine issues were apparent and the team was forced to change the Kistler power-plant early on during hot laps. Allard then went on to time in eighth fastest in qualifying, before driving the K & N Filters, Sharp Insurance & Bonding Maxim to third place finishes in both his heat and the dash.
The 31 year-old driver capped the night by finishing eighth in the main event as he focused on bringing the car home in one piece, which is a key in winning championships. “We were just a bit off tonight,” Allard said as this marked virtually the first night he wasn’t in contention for a win during the Golden State Challenge season. “But everyone has those nights and these guys have been working really hard all season and I know we’ll be back to normal next week. The Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial is always a special race to me and I’m looking forward to hopefully battling for the win come Saturday,” he concluded.
This coming weekend’s Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial is always one of the biggest events of the season as it pays tribute to the fallen sprint car driver. Allard has had a lot of success at the Bradway during this decade as he’s a three-time winner of the event and is one of only two drivers to have won it at least three times. His first victory in the race came in 2001 and it also marked his very first win with the Golden State Challenge Series. Wins in 2003, 2005 and a runner-up in 2006 have kept up his great runs at the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial and he’ll look for more of it at the 18th annual edition this coming Saturday. Allard will also be in action on Friday at the Silver Dollar bullring during a regular Feather Falls Casino weekly point event.

Broken shock slows Stephen Allard in Chico before scoring top 10 in Tulare on Saturday
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – May 11, 2008…Competing aboard the H.A.M. Construction No. 35a for the second time this season defending Silver Dollar Speedway track champ Stephen Allard looked to be on his way to a great run before a shock issue put an end to his bid at victory. On Saturday he then made the long haul to Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway and gutted out the main event for a ninth place finish.
Allard and the Main Motorsports team used this past Friday’s Feather Falls Casino event at the Silver Dollar Speedway as a tune-up for next weekend’s Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. The Chico racer drove the 35a JEI sprinter to a second place finish during his first outing in the car last month and looked to be on his way to another strong finish once again.
The 35 year-old driver began the sixth Silver Dollar Speedway point race by qualifying seventh fastest in the field and finishing second in his heat race to transfer the JP’s Paint & Body, Medi-Pro Billing No. 35a machine into the main event. Starting seventh on the grid Allard looked very fast right from the get go as he was one of only a few drivers who could run the high side and make it work.
Allard charged around the high side of Willie Croft early on to move into fourth and then closed in on younger brother Jonathan for the third spot. The older Allard put the Watson Carbon Fiber No. 35a sprinter on the cushion once again and got side by side with Jonathan on the fourth lap, but couldn’t make it stick and settled back into fourth.
Just after this something appeared to be wrong with the car as Allard slowed and on a lap eight caution he headed for the pits with a broken front shock. Lee Watson and the Main Motorsports crew went to work on the car and were able to get him back out just in time for the restart. After going back green Allard was carving his way back through the field when he contacted one of the big white tires on the 14th lap, which left him with front end damage and put an end to the night.
Following the disappointing end in Chico Allard traveled down to the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway for the second time this season as he competed aboard the David Key Trucking, Wayne Cox Gunite No. 86. The night of racing marked the 11th event of the Golden State Challenge Series season and Allard cut a 13.886 second lap around the 1/3 mile clay oval in qualifying to place him ninth fastest overall.
A fourth place finish in the nights final heat race put Allard into the dash where he went on and finished eighth, to give him a fourth row starting spot in the main event. The track surface had slicked off all the way to the wall and after battling it out for 30 laps of racing Allard brought the red No. 86 sprint car home in the ninth position. It was nice for Allard to get a full night of racing in with the Golden State Challenge Series as he gets set for a big weekend of action next Friday and Saturday.
The coming weekend will find Allard back behind the wheel of the Main Motorsports No. 35a as he guns for his first win in the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Allard had a very good shot at the winning the Bradway Memorial just a few years ago while driving the Redi-Green Motorsports No. 1k until tough luck took away his shot at the win. On that night he was able to pass brother Jonathan for the lead of the race and looked to be well on way to his biggest career victory when over-heating problems parked him on the infield just a handful of laps short of the checkered.
This season he appears to have one of the his best shots since that year at winning the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial and looks forward to trying to add his name to all-time winners list of the event on Saturday. Allard and the No. 35a team will also be in action on Friday night during a regular weekly Feather Falls Casino point event. Jason Statler runs 6th in Watsonville before dnf in Tulare
By Gary Thomas
Watsonville, CA – May 12, 2008…"The Big Guy” Jason Statler competed at a pair of different tracks during this past weekend and it was highlighted by a sixth place finish on Friday night during a curfew shortened main event in Watsonville. The Los Gatos veteran went into the night sitting fifth in the Ocean Speedway standings and looked to keep up the recent momentum he had gained following a win at the track during the last time out.
The night of racing at the Ocean Speedway marked the third 360 point event of the season and saw a field of 28 cars on hand. Statler qualified 12th fastest to begin the night and picked up a win in his heat race to transfer the DF Rios Construction, D & D Roofing No. 00 into the main event. With time constraints looming ahead Statler tried his best to make it through the field as quickly as possible.
He was able to get up to sixth by the time the checkered flag was unveiled on the 16th lap of the feature. “It was too bad that the race got shortened because we were all lining up nose to tail on the track and I think it would have been a pretty good race to the end,” Statler said. “I was happy to roll the car into the trailer though and I have to thank my guys for continuing to work hard every night.”
On Saturday the Statler Racing team made the haul down to Tulare to compete in the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. The former King of California qualified 10th fastest in the field and after transferring through his heat race he was set to line-up on the outside of the fifth row in the main event. Early on Statler had a fast race car as he was able to maneuver the Mark Bristow tuned machine very well on the slick racing surface. He was up to seventh after a couple of laps, but slowed to a stop after seven laps were completed due to a problem on the car.
The Pheasant Run Shopping Center, Kaeding Performance Maxim was towed back to the pits to put a tough end to the night. Before the races Statler commented that he hoped the track would slick off and allow the drivers to get up on the fence, which it ended up doing. With the track to his liking Statler looked good early in the running, but unfortunately didn’t get the chance to make it very long before the issue occurred and put him out of contention.
This coming weekend will find the Statler Racing team in competition during another double header weekend. On Friday night the Double Zero sprinter will be back at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for another round of weekly 360 action. Then on Saturday the “Big Guy” will head to Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway for the 18th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.
The Bradway Memorial is the most prestigious event of the Golden State Challenge Series season and this year’s running looks to be one of the most competitive in recent memory. Statler Racing sponsors Dave & Diane Durica of D & D Roofing have once again collected lap money and each lap of the main events during the night will pay out money to the top three drivers in the running order. In addition to the lap money $1200 will be up for grabs to the fast qualifier and $500 will be awarded to the hard charger in the main event. The heat race winners will also receive a free right rear tire and five sleeves of tear offs courtesy HoservilleCA, as well a free carbon fiber nose wing cap from Watson Carbon Fiber.
In 2004 Statler held off the furious charge from 13-time King of California Brent Kaeding to pick up the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial victory. The win still ranks as one of his biggest career triumphs and also came during the same season he won the GSC championship. Statler will go into the 18th annual running of the event fresh off a fourth place finish at Silver Dollar Speedway on May 2.

Mike Henry finishes 11th at Chris & Brian Faria Memorial
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – May 11, 2008…Sacramento’s Mike Henry continued his inaugural Golden State Challenge Series campaign and brought home an 11th place finish on Saturday night at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway despite a late race collision that forced him to restart from the rear of the field.
This past Saturday’s event was billed as the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial and also marked the midway point of the Golden State Challenge Series season. Going into the night Henry was part of a dog fight for the runner-up spot in the points with 410 veterans Brent Kaeding, Tyler Walker and Bud Kaeding. The former two-time Civil War Series champ held onto second by just three points and looked for a strong night to maintain the spot.
The Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway is one of the tracks on the GSC schedule that Henry hasn’t spent much time at in his career and the previous two visits to the 1/3 mile clay oval brought him finishes of sixth and ninth. So far this season qualifying has went very well for Henry, but on this night he was a bit off that pace and timed in 13th quickest with a lap of 14.076 aboard the Royal Lagoon Pools, World Environmental No. 93.
Following qualifying Henry and the HMH Motorsports team got the car locked down for the heat race and he proceeded to put on a show for the fans in the closing seconds of the 10 lap contest. The Sac town racer sat in second when starter Willie Williams unveiled the white flag and Henry gave it one last shot up high in turns three and four.
As the top duo went into the final set of corners Henry blew to the high side and looked to have the pass made, but couldn’t get by and finished less than half a car length behind winner Garrett Ishii. The Thunderbowl Raceway crowd roared their approval as both drivers came by on the cool down lap following the exciting finish.
When the 30 lap Chris & Brian Faria Memorial main event pushed onto the track it saw Henry start from the inside of the seventh row. Early on he got up into the top 10 before struggling to find traction on the slick surface. He continued on racing right around the top 10 trying to find a line where the car would work when a spun car on lap 22 left him with nowhere to go.
Henry contacted the car and came to a stop, forcing him to restart at the rear of the field. He stayed composed however, and was able to drive the C & H Veteran Enterprises Maxim back to an 11th place finish during the final eight laps. It wasn’t the kind of night the team had hoped for, but getting more and more laps on the different track surfaces will only make Henry more confident as the season goes on.
Next up for the HMH Motorsports team will be a double header weekend of action at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Friday night’s race will be a regular Feather Falls Casino weekly show before Saturday’s event will be the 18th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. The prestigious event is the cornerstone of the Golden State Challenge season and is always the richest one night stand on the series schedule. Big money and other goodies are up for grabs during qualifying, heat races and the main event. Henry’s best career finish at the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial came in 2006 when he drove a Mike Stallings owned sprinter to a fifth place finish in the 40 lap main event.
He’ll go into the Bradway sitting fourth in the GSC standings, just three points behind Tyler Walker for third and six back of Brent Kaeding for second. Log onto http://www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com for more info on the 18th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.

Bonus money up for grabs to winged sprint car drivers during May 25th Salute to Indy at Tulare Thunderbowl
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – May 12, 2008…With the second annual Salute to Indy featuring the USAC/CRA sprint cars coming up on May 25 at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, a nice bonus will be up for grabs to winged sprint car drivers who shed their wings and compete during the night.
KRC Safety Equipment and Sharp Insurance, both of Visalia, will be putting up $500 each which will be paid out to the top four regular winged sprint car drivers who take the wings off for the event. Both parties are huge and loyal sprint car fans who want nothing more than to see as many winged sprint car drivers as possible compete at the Salute to Indy.
The payoff for the money to the top four highest finishing winged regulars will be $400 to the top finisher, $300 to the second, $200 to the third and $100 to fourth. The Salute to Indy last year saw a very successful inaugural event at the Thunderbowl and this year is expecting to be every bit as good when the wingless 410’s invade the 1/3 mile clay oval on Sunday night May 25.
Reserved tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling (559) 688-0909. For a seating chart and more info on the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway log onto http://www.thunderbowlraceway.com

More bonus money for winged drivers at Tulare Thunderbowl on Sunday May 25
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – May 12, 2008…With this morning’s announcement of bonus money up for grabs to winged sprint car drivers during the upcoming Salute to Indy at the Thunderbowl Raceway, more of it is coming in courtesy $500 from Guy Stockbridge of Elite Landscaping located in Clovis.
With Elite Landscaping’s contribution of $500 added to KRC Safety Equipment’s and Sharp Insurance’s donations of $500 each, a total of $1,500 will now be split between the top five highest finishing winged sprint car drivers during the USAC/CRA Wingless 410 Series sanctioned event on May 25.
The new figures will now be $500 for the highest finishing winged driver, $400 for the second, $300 for the third, $200 for the fourth and $100 for the fifth highest finisher. “We’re hoping this will entice some of the winged drivers to come on down since there aren’t any 410 races on Memorial Day weekend,” Don Sharp of Sharp Insurance & Bonding said. “We are definitely looking forward to this show and think it would be fun if we had some of the Northern & Central California regulars on hand.”
Last season’s inaugural Salute to Indy at the Tulare Thunderbowl was captured by wingless veteran Cory Kruseman of Ventura. The event saw a big crowd on hand and featured some outstanding racing on the 1/3 mile clay oval. In addition to the wingless regulars, three-time Oval Nationals champion Bud Kaeding is expected to be in action at the event this season and with the extra money hopefully a few more of the usual winged contingent will throw their name in the mix.
