An announcement was made last night at the NSCS event that on October 6th there will be an open comp wingless 360 sprint and midget event. The sprint class will be paying $1500 to win and the midget class win be paying $1000 to win. Call the track for more information.
If you have never been to Willamette Speedway here is a great opportunately to see the track. If you have never seen wingless sprints and midgets, you got to go. I do not think there are any other tracks running so this event will not interfere with any track schedule. This is going to be an awesome chance to see wingless sprints and midgets on one awesome NW track.

This event is not sanctioned. Just an opportunity for racers to get one last event in before the rains start falling. Brought to us by a promoter that is willing to take the chance and put it on. Not sure about the Sprint class rules, but the midgets will be open comp. Any USAC legal car is welcome to join in the chase for the $1,000 to win prize. The track will be open for practice on Friday the 5th for both divisions. There is free (dry) camping available at the track.
And attention Focus car owner/drivers. There is talk of staging a race within a race with bonus money to the highest placing Focus powered car. Put your "outlaw" motor in and come do battle with the Esslingers, Gaertes, and Pontiacs!! Please post a reply if you are interested so we can get an idea about how many of you may show.
This is a great opportunity for you midget guys to enjoy running a new track. Willamette is a great size for the cars, a true 1/3 mile with plenty of room to race.

| Otto and Jonathan Jorgenson (#7 & #5 FF Midgets) are interested. What is the purse breakdown and how much extra for the Focus Midgets. Also what time is the track going to be open for practice on Friday.

#1) Is this promoted by Mike McCann?
#2) What is a Ford Focus "outlaw" motor? Where are these run?

NOTE: This post does not contain its original content. It been censored by PAUL to remove his participation in this thread. Sorry if it leads to further confusion.

Paul,
Yes knowing who is promoting the race does make a difference! It would determine, if certain drivers were precluded from racing in a traditional sprint car race in Oregon.
I really don't know why you feel this information is not yours to publicize. Especially since, you wrote that your involvement was because the "guy" asked you to help get the word out.
I'll call Brian Crocket and get some information from him. He seemed fairly informed when I saw him while at the Cottage Grove WoO race.
Later,
SprintCarz

Ok, thats great info - thanks Paul. I simply thought, after making 3 or 4 posts plus sending a few private messages on the event you brought forth on a message board over the course of the last 2 days, that you might have some information on whom to contact. I did look at the Willamette web site, as well as searched other message boards for the information, but could find nothing, so I asked you a simple direct question.
I do appreciate your position of wanting to simply enjoy and help promote another NW event without all of the politics and other crap, but from the outside looking in, there does appear to be more to this than is being told - evident in your original locked post. Lets hope this not to be the case, as the decision to travel 964 miles one way gets easier and easier.
Now, as you have asked a question on the message board in the public eye, and I have no problem answering questions - public or private, let me give you just a little insight as to why I asked who was promoting the event you were advocating as being non-political and just for fun.
Our program includes a policy of being straightforward and up front - specifically in regard to our driver and the relationship with promoters. We have made no secret about TJ's age or experience, and have made sure that any questions or concerns are addressed before someone is put in a compromising position. In each instance, (a total of 5 promoters/track operators contacted directly) our openness has been met with a great amount of appreciation, and at least in one case, a bit of surprise. This type of approach has resulted in a very positive exchange of dialog with the promoters we have contacted directly.
In all but one case, we were allowed to participate without compromising anyones integrity. In the one case in which we were precluded from participating, the exchange was still, and shall remain, very positive. The group had specific rules, and we could not meet those rules. I applaud them for standing firm in their beliefs, and so stated. I am a "rules" person, and as I teach my children - rules are to be followed.
So, getting to the specifics of your question - there is only one group that I was aware of that has the audacity(read that as "sack big enough") to promote "sprint car"(read that as no wings) racing on dirt in the entire NW. That group being Mike McCann's group - of which we were already precluded from participating with for a few more years. In finding no other information aside from your repeated posts on the subject - I asked a simple question:
"Paul, who is promoting this event? Willamette Speedway or ?. Need some contact info."
I suppose it would have been easier to simply show up with falsified documents, or better yet - make reservations for motel rooms 964 miles due South. I just thought it would be nice to have an opportunity to have my son race a sprint car within a reasonable driving distance for his family, friends, and fans, AND be able to keep our integrity intact. It appears there may be some political issues brewing in regard to this event, something my family has vowed to stay away from, so it's probably best to simply make the motel reservations and support a California promoter.
Now - as we all know you're so good at - feel free to delete my post, or lock the thread. But know exactly where I was coming from in asking you a very simple, direct, positive, and non-political(on my part) question.
Have a nice day,
Ted Hartman

he probably will delete it Ted, because its his board and he can do with it what he wants.
I for one, would love another opportunity to watch the cars go round and round before mother nature starts owning our days and nights.
I was at the USCA show last night in Banks and there was a lot of chatter about this event--my buddy that runs USCA doesnt care about politics and he wants to run it.
FWIW....I hope it goes off, and I hope it goes off big, with 20-30 guys going without wings....heck maybe some guys who dont normally run with the top down can go throw it down

Nor do I Paul - fact is, I want to stay as far away from it as I can. Don't want any part of someones pissing contest - and it has become apparent that's what this event is.
And I was just trying to find out who to get in touch with about the event. As I have discovered in the past few months, it's not always the track that makes the decisions - and I suspect thats the case in this matter. I was just trying to make sure all of our bases were covered.
I just wish you would have answered my question without becoming defensive. A PM would have sufficed just fine for me.

Ted

Good point. hey, could you point me in the direction where you answered my initial question:

all the while telling others they have PM's? I must have missed your response or PM to my simple question. My bad. I got it now though. Thats what I get for being a simpleton.

uncalled for? its just frustrating in that you can't have an opinion that differs from the consensus on this board. thats all. it was probably an underhanded swipe at you Paul, and I apologize for that. I love this board, its a great resource and a great place to meet new friends.
I just get this feeling that all this negative backwash is going to get this race canned or have like 6 cars show up....I'm gonna be pissed if I drive 4 hours to Willamette....for 6 sprint cars

And sorry Skinny - maybe next time. Maybe we can find someone to videotape the next race. It won't be me though, 'cause the camera would be shaking to much to see anything. LOL.

The show is being promotd by track owner Bill Arnold. No secret, no agenda. "skinny42" has the right attitude. A late season race for Midgets and non-wing Sprints at a venue that most racers of these cars haven't had an opportunity to run at. Put on by a promoter that very much wants to have them. What more can racers ask for??If we get another track on board for Midgets and non-wing Sprints that is very good news for the racers in this area.
"sprintcarz" - the "outlaw" motor comment was a joke. Everybody that runs a race car with motor rules wonders just how much faster it would be with a bigger motor. IF somebody has built a screaming Focus motor, here's their chance!!
"FFmidget7" - thanks for the interest guys. I will try and get a firm figure for you. The minimum for midgets will be $100.00. The Focus bonus will be on top of that. I believe the bonus money will be in the $200.00 area.
Keep and eye on the http://www.trophmotorsports web site for more information regarding practice times.

You're welcome. I made the wrong assumption when I wrote that it was a non-sanctioned event, that everyone would know that Willamette was promoting. My apologies for the confusion.
Hope you will be able to attend.

This bonus will be awarded to the highest finishing Focus powered Midget at the upcoming Oct 6th race at Willamette Speedway. It will be in addition to the regular purse monies earned. Practices are from 5 PM to 8 PM on Fridays unless a special event is scheduled.
This track is wide and screaming fast! Wide enough for Late Models to run 3 wide so you guys shouldn't have a problem with that. New true clay was put on the track mid season. The officials are some of the most professional and efficent you fill find any where.
Try it, you will like it!

You are right Chancesmom. We have tested some midgets there during the summer, and the drivers come off the track with smiles that say it all. Fast, smooth, and lots of room to "dance".
And yes the Arnold family knows how to stage a race. For the racer as well as the fans.
It's been about 15 years since Midgets have had an opportunity to race at Willamette. And wingless sprints???? Anybody out there know when they ran there last? Before they invented the wing??

Our team will be there on the 6th for sure as spectators. We wouldn't miss seeing the wingless run on that track for nothin'!
I've seen things posted not only on this board but other boards about the politikin' with this race. Just because a certain promotor isn't involved isn't a bad thing! Like anyone promotor has a monopoly on any one class! Willamette is sending you open wheel guys a message.........he wants you there! Did it ever occur to the nay sayers that Willamette Speedway runs a full schedule......every weekend schedule with up to 150 cars? Maybe there just wasn't enough room in the already established schedule when a certain promotor asked to race there. I do not believe a race such as the up coming Oct. 6th one was never done before because of the "I don't like you or you don't like me thing." Willamette just doesn't operate that way. I guarantee it

To all that are interested in the Oct. 6th Wingless Sprint/Midget show at Willamette Speedway:
Yes this race is going to happen! It will be promoted by Willamette Speedway. As we have for over 40 years, we will welcome ALL racers and fans and it should be a great night of racing. Although the speedway is best known for having one of the best Dirt Late Model shows in the west, we also know open-wheeled racing and will do our best to give everyone a chance to get in on what we hope will be an annual event.
This track doe's not do politics. The policy is very simple. Racers race, promoter pays purse, fans and participants enjoy, we all go home safe and happy.
For the latest info, check Trophymotorsports.com or e-mail me at the address on the website.
Thank you for your interest in this event.

I raced with WMRA there 3 or 4 times . I won in '88 with a VW midget & '89 with a Cosworth. I think '91 was the last year midgets (WMRA) ran there.

I originally had plans to go to the 360 nationals in chico, but probably will go to Willamete. We will have to see how the weather holds up and all that. If so we could all meet up somewhere at the track. I think fletch was talking about possibly coming down also. I know Paul will be there for the race.
