Thought these were all 1983 but after checking the file and index dates it was 1984 so had to change the dates. Since the Butte track only ran through '84. it's possible that this was the last sprint car race there. I know when we showed up there was still weeds growing on the track. Prep was pretty much blade the weeds off and put some water on it.  Sure had a lot of fun though.

That guy sure was a lot younger!  Sure that wasn't 83?  Surprised you don't have a picture of who he ran over.

It is 1983. That's what I had thought but they were all in the '84 file drawer. Went to the negative file this morning and they are 1983. Now I gotta change the posts again.
I think the wreck happened behind me so all I have is after the fact shots.

According to Allan Brown's book the 3/8th mile at the fairgrounds ran from 1966 - 1982. The Dixson Speedway 1/4 mile, was a drag strip there also, from early '50's - early '60's.

Photo must have been at the 3/8ths from looking at the car.

I like the pictures of Great Falls.  The arrow on the front stretch let the spectators know which way the cars are going.  I thing they needed it after a few of those beer buckets.:D

I am sure it is not Pete Harding, it is a 66/67 Ford Fairlane. Can't find my old programs to ID.

Here is a tow rig I would take over anything being used today. Somewhere in Portland.

Dixon closed down in 1982 or '83. I saw the last NARC race there. It was a fun track to go to. Really brings back a lot of memories of how racing used to be. I do not know if you remember a guy by the name of Ed Oregon, but on the last night he ended up in the tree near turn three. He took a wild ride over the wall and into that tree. I will never forget it as long as I am alive. He was not injured and it was one of the strangest looking crashes I have ever seen.

You might be correct.  The blue car 4th row inside looks like the number 10, which. was I believe a Lemley car back then.  I know Jerry Birdsey drove it in the 60s.  The reason I doubted it was because the trees used to be right up to the fence, and there was a drop off behind turn 1 and 2.  Art Hillstead expained to me that the back fence was also the property line.  Thus the reason for the egg shaped track.  That picture shows a lot of clearing on what would not have been their land.  Would be intresting if some one could confirm the picture.  Love these old pictures.

Okay, correct me if I'm wrong.  I got Cecil Walker in the 49, Ron Eliason in the 27, Gene Mathews in the duece and I'm thinking that is the 98(x) of Kieth Jensen that is sideways.  If so, I'm thinking this is about '78 or so.

Can anyone correct me on that?

Oh that's right.  I forgot that was Ron Robertson's number.

I was guessing the year based on Kieth Jensen's car.  My dad helped crew that car for part of the year and I'm guessing I was around 10.  Nah, maybe I was closer to 12, which would put it around '80?

That dirt track that looks like it was scratched out of a logging camp is not Skagit. It's Terrace, BC (west of Prince George) in 1968.

http://www.terracespeedway.ca/photos/vintage1967_1989/pages/1968_04_jpg.htm

Track was paved shortly after that photo. Ralph Monhay brought the CAMRA supermods up there in the early 1970s.
