Kelly that tavern was Skip's and I see his daughter almost every week, her name is Linda and she works at Ixtapa in Monroe. I believe that when Skip died she gave most of the old racing photos to my dad and he passed them on to somebody after looking at them. She had 6-8 big albums that used to be in the tavern.....I'll see if I can find out where they ended up.

Linda's dad Chuck, my dad, Gene Guptill and another guy that went to high school in Monroe were joined at the hip for years......the Barnett's lived next door to the Kern's on Park Lane in Monroe. Small world.....lol.

Kelly, I had some super 8mm movies transfered to VHS and on this video I have a 55 car that wins a trophy dash and gives the trophy queen a huge smooch. The footage has to be from the late 50's im not sure though. The car is black with gray numbers and the driver wheres white clothes and a red bandana im guessing for the horrific dust. The hole in turn 1 is clearly evident in these videos.

THANK-YOU TO WESCO DRIVER RALLY ROOT FOR SENDING ME SOME PICTURES OF HIS DAD LAVER ROOT AND MY DAD STANDING IN FRONT OF THEIR NUMBER #55 CAR FROM SKY VALLEY.  RALLY'S SISTER WHO LIVES IN TEXAS SENT HIM THE PICTURES TAKEN AROUND 1959 OR "60 WITH THE FIRST COLOR CAMERA TO COME OUT.  I WILL TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO POST.  ALSO FOR THOSE OF YOU YOUNG WESCO DRIVERS, AND I WAS IN THE STANDS TO WITNESS THIS, ASK RALLY ABOUT THIS!!  WHEN HE DROVE JALOPIES AT SKY VALLEY SPEEDWAY AROUND 1975, HE TIMED HIS CAR, AND HE WAS SO UNHAPPY ABOUT HIS TIME IN AND HOW THE CAR WAS HANDLING, AS THE ANNOUCER READ HIS FINAL TIME, RALLY MADE A HARD RIGHT  OUT THE PIT GATE, DROVE DOWN THE PARKING LOT PAST THE FANS ARRIVING AT THE TRACK, DOWN THE HILL, ACROSS HIGHWAY 2, THRU THE MIDDLE OF THE TOWN OF MONROE AND TO HIS HOUSE.  YOU SURE COULDN'T DO THAT TODAY!!
