Here's a photo from Langley Speedway: Washington State's Gordy Stewart taking the checkered just ahead of Langley Speedway regulars Barry Chamberlain and Larry Sproule, at a CAMRA race July 1969. (File mislabelled as August). My records from the newspapers of the day have John McPherson winning the A main and Vern Church the B main.

Here's Jerry Day from the second day of competition at Victoria, BC's Western Speedway. 1969 Daffodil Cup. Jerry won the feature on the first day but obviously didn't have the same success the next day. Bud Gorder won the overall title.

Another car from 1969. Norm Ellefson, relocated to Spokane, WA, from Edmonton, AB, to better race the CAMRA circuit. He won the title in 1966 and 67 with the Morin no. 98 Lucky Lager car and in 1969 with the Jim Tipke built roadster. Norm never got a good shot at champ car racing. Too bad.
Photo with Norm E. and Jim Tipke. They also won the IMCA Minnesota State fair race with the car.

Ralph Monhay at Meridian Speedway, Boise, ID circa 1966. I believe that's the Bud Morgan car. Correct me if I'm wrong.

| WHAT A GREAT PICTURE!! SOME THINGS NEVER CHANG IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE GRANDSTANDS (OR GRASSY HILLSIDE). THE KIDS GET AS CLOSE TO THE FENCE AS POSSIBLE, THEN THE LOVE BIRDS SNUGGLING TOGETHER (THEY MIGHT WATCH THE RACE A LITTLE) THEN THE FAMILIES SITTING UP TOP.

Thanks for information Mr. V. This thread has been quiet for awhile. Came across a bunch of photos sent to me from Ron Daggitt via Ralph Monhay. Many from the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame site. First one is mid-60s with Victoria's Al Smith inside of Lewiston's George Robertson at Western Speedway.

| I was looking at some of the pic's, there was one of the Sneva 4 wheel drive car, the ? was at what track. That was @ the old Spokane Fairgrounds race track, Broadway & Havana, Spokane. That is Tom Sneva in the car. time would be the early 70's. Frank

Think you can find the photo you are looking for by going to > RACETALK > Stateline Stadium/Speedway > Sneva Modified and checking the message by nobby, the 5th one down.

Think thats an Edmunds and the late Tom Cornelius was involved. Looks like a young Tom in the photo. Have the photo also with Edmunds rear-engine? noted on it. Can't remember (hate gettin' old) who told me but think it was one of the Golden Wheels guys.

Wouldnt it be great if supermods of today were too have the popularity they had back than? Supermods were everywhere in the 60's and 70's and today they can rarely be seen but on a traveling tour.

If you want to travel to Australia, you can find one in George (Brooke's dad) Tatnell's shop. A friend in Sydney mentioned that he had seen one there that looked like the one on Don Edmund's web site and I confirmed it with Brooke last year.

Thanks for the link Curt. Makes sense that it is a midget as it came from a collection of photos from the late Gordon Reelie, legendary midget owner from Canada.
Just to get back to supers, here's Alvin Haggith, from Nanaimo, BC, at Langley Speedway, around 1969. Comes from the Langley Speedway Historical Society collection.

| Which would be Jackie O'Neal's dad. I spent many a night sharing flagging duties with Jackie at Spanaway in 1982. I don't remember that I ever got to watch Lucky but I thought Jackie was one darn good starter.....and a great guy to boot.

| It was Mid-Season Championships July, 15th, but like an idiot I didn't write down the year. Can't remember if this was the throphy dash or main event. I allways thought Lucky was s lot better flagman than his kid. Many a night I looked for a rock I could throw at Jackie at an open wheel race, he was better at the door slammers, I didn't get so mad. If the mid-season championship was a WMRA race then July 15, 1967 at Spanaway was the date according to the information I have.
Fast time: #2, Joe Webby, 14.85
A dash: #2, Joe Webby
B dash: #0, Ray Oban
1st heat: #30, Denny Long
2nd heat: #75, Palmer Crowell
main: #75, Palmer Crowell
Petersen won the WMRA title that year with 3850 points over Crowell with 3650.

The "late" Tom Cornelius??? When did he pass away? He was a cool guy, always dressed in spotless whites. I swear, that guy could walk through the muddy pits at Skagit back in the 1970s and come out looking like he was the poster child for Clorox, while the rest of us looked like we were losers in a mud wrestling competition. If he's in heaven right now, I'm sure there are angels asking him the secret to getting their robes so white! RIP, Tom!

Yep, Jackie's dad.. I followed him as a starter when he quit. He actually trained me and I held that position for a few years. Then went on the road and was a starter for special events all over the NorthWest and Canada including IDC.. Those were the good ol days..man ,that was fun.
