Does anybody have any old stock car photos they want to post?
I'll start with this one, even though it's not that old. Back in the good ol' days of open comp superstocks... Big spoilers, no templates!
Anyone recognize this one?

Can anyone guess the car owner of the #2 Fox car?
Or how about who drove it previous to Fox?
Or who the previous car owner of it was and the number?
Or who that is standing there with the blue shirt on?

Are they:
Rick Terry?
Derrike Cope? I don't think it was Steve Helmholz, I think he drove the Nova.
I don't know the previous owner or number, I could use a hint. I'll take a wild guess, just for laughs and say either Bud Lunore or Joe Hickle?
Dan Pikron?

flaggerinthree, those are cool pictures! I never would have guessed that was Hershel. Neither one of those cars looks familiar to me at all.
Here's one, I can almost hear Don Ackerman yell from the top row of the grandstands: Yay Jackie Kuper!

OK Bob46..I gotta meet you now.. Your answers are mostly correct!
#1...Yes, it was me
#2...Yes, it was D. Cope.. Steve Helmholz and JJ Zaffino drove the Nova. Steve also drove the Chevelle a couple years before that and won on the old Grays Harbor 1/2 mile in an open comp show. Cool history
#3...Anyone that has been in NW stockcar scene as long as us remembers that car as belonging to none other than Ron Eaton. It was the black #7 Bemco Chassis he ran all over the west for 2 years. Odd part of that car was that it had the fuel cell mounted in the pass area. Car was fueled thru the pass window opening. Theory was as fuel got used the left side weight bias increased.
#4...Yes, it is Dan Pikron. All around good pitboss, promoter and one helluva nice guy to boot.
Trivia question.. Cope drove his first race in that car at the NORCAL 150 in Anderson,California. 2 weeks later we took it to a big race here in Washington and won with it. He lapped the field except for 2nd place. Anyone remember what race it was and who the prominent driver was that finished second? tic toc tic toc

Cool picture of Jackie Kuper.. Check out the lettering on that baby. Nice vinyl huh? NOT.. I think the only vinyl on that car is the JB stuff. All the rest of it is hand lettered by the famous Bob Davidson which also was a part owner in the car. Spent many hours at his home in Parkland watching his talent being applied. Guy is amazing

Rick... I don't know the answer to your trivia question, I must not have made it to that race. It does remind me of another one.
I remember around that same time frame going to a big race at Yakima, was it the Fall Classic? Chuck Flora lead every lap unchallenged, it was a pretty boring race actually. The only excitement was Jack Jeffreys throwing a fit, and eventually getting black flagged. After yelling at the flagman and the promoter, he ended up parking his car on the track at the start/finish line and walked to the pits while the rest of the field circled under caution. I was a little more rebellious in my youth, and seeing that made my day.

Bob46, I remember the first time I saw Hershel run at Spanaway, he took it so far into turn three that I thought he was going to end up in Spanaway Lake. None of our locals ever went in that hard. The other car set fast time won the dash his heat and was misteriously diaqualified for the main event! Those were fun saturday nights watching the likes of Frank Cey, the Brock brothers, Don Hall, Clem Goddard, Ron Eaton, Len Longley, and all the rest I can't remember right now.

| I remember the first time that Herschel came to Yakima. In the trophy dash he started on the pole and after many unsuccesful attempts to pass Don Dowdy punted him coming down the back chute into the tumble weeds off turn 3. So during the heat Herschel returned the favor for the heat win. Ted Pollock interviewed him after the heat in front of a Pro Dowdy crowd and explained that since Dowdy was a local thats how you race there. The place went nuts. Hersch. went on to win the feature and gained a BIG fan. AL out!

Anybody remember Hershel running on the old dirt track in Centralia at the fairgrounds? He was amazing to watch there. Would put the right rear corner of the car on the fence and just stand on it....WOW!

I do know the #1 car is Don Dowdy, the littlr Fairlane inside of him looks like Chuck Little (Chads Father from Spokane), the 100 car looks like Gordie Haines from Yakima. Not Sure on that one tho.

I couldn't agree with you more! The old A.R.I. days of the "A" and "AA" classes, what more did you need? Here's a couple of pictures from around that time taken of a parade going down Pacific Ave in Parkland.Attachment: img018.jpg (Downloaded 352 times)

Is that shot of Ray Elder at Spanaway?? I remember watching Gordie Haines crash off turn 2 at Yakima end up out in the tumble weeds. He apparently went through the fence ended up on HWY 82. He went down the frreeway and came back off Nob Hill Blvd. Classic!!

| Also I found my new avatar. I had this picture taken with Dale Jr at the All Star game at Safeco in 2001. He had just won the Pepsi 400, the first time back after Sr's death. Now look at the Seattle cop in the back ground.......Gargoyles glasses, hair parted, THE moustache. Kind of scary huh?? Al out.
