I wasn't sure where to post this and I apologize if it would have been better suited under another column.

Long time NW open wheel car owner Rudy Peterson passed away yesterday (Sunday 8/19) from complications of pneumonia. Most of us remember Rudy owning the big block sprinter, the Peate Bros T's and the sprint car tailed supermodified and most of them called the King Crab Specials. I remember many of Rudy's drivers and he had some good ones over the years. Ross Fontes, Marty White, Gary Bettenhausen, Tom Naylor, Randy Bauer, Mike Swanson, Don Powell and many more. He will surely be missed by many, family and friends alike. When I find out more concerning services I will post it here.

RIP Rudy & Bob Beadle.

I remember when Ross Fontess drove the King Crab Sprinter at Skagit.  What a beautiful shiny gray Super Modified with the Crab on it.  Kelly

That was a RAM Sprint Car with a Chrysler Hemi in it to start with and later was changed to Chevy power. The Car is sitting in Rudys shop along with a few others

I talked to Don Powell the other night and the warehouse full of racecars came up in conversation. I seriously hope that they can be preserved and end up in the right hands......lotsa history there Jerry.

Well.....my "source" called me last night to let me know the services for Rudy were held Tuesday. I apologize to those that may have wanted to attend and were waiting to see the info posted here. I should have followed up instead of sittng back and waiting for the information to come to me....I'm sorry.

In the photo of the Ram car at Skagit I believe the guy with his back to the camera wearing the cowboy hat is Randy Moser. Thanks for posting the pic speedbuggy.

Alright, CurtK, I do believe that is Randy in the picture!  At first, I thought it was Ram, but you are right.
Now, the rest of the picture...To Randy's left would that be Mike Evans?  The guy in the red hat to the right is surely Butch Overby.  The guy with the long legs in the far distant left...Alan Raper????

RIP Rudy.  You were truly a Northwest racing legend, and my hope is that you never be forgetten.

I'm guessing your are correct on all accounts. It's tough to tell for sure but I think it's Rudy himself if you look past Randy's right shoulder. Signature Randy......cowboy hat, t-shirt, rag hanging out of his back pocket and tight jeans about 3" too short for the cowboy boots.

So, Curt, what ever became of Randy?  He was a really good flagger at Sky Valley, and was a more than fair driver in the Trick Tractor.  After the mid 80's he seemed to have dropped out of the racing scene.

He spent some time traveling, driving truck for various different companies and doing odd jobs. During the years that I was heavily involved with the west coast supermodified stuff Randy would show up at some of the venues and help out. Although like many of us and racing runs in our blood, Randy seemed to be able to distance himself from it lots better than I ever have. Most of the time when he would land close to home he would call me and we'd get together for however long time permitted. Sadly, Randy took his own life a number of years ago.
