Those last four are pretty cool photos. We need Mel Anthony's memory for some of these I think.

I'll hazard a guess that the t-shirted driver in the No. 1 is Louie Sherman. Won a lot in Oregon and Washington.

The pair of midgets I couldn't make an intelligent guess on. I think the No. 25 was owned by Clarence Smith. Probably shot at Jantzen Beach.

The third shot is Art Scovell (I believe), at Aurora in 1946. (I have this photo in my collection.)

And the last looks like Bob Gregg sitting on the back of the midget about to el-kabong a rival driver.

I used to rely on guys who were there like Pike Green to identify the drivers. But we've lost most of that generation. Mel Anthony is one of the few left.

The Art Scoville is right that was the only one that had information written on the back. here are a couple of more. The input is cool it is very nice to know that somebody still knows about these guys now i can put notes on them so when my son gets these pictures from me he will have the info on them.

and some old pictures from Spanaway also.  Is that the same Daffodil Special in the background to the left with a different wing?  I remember the announcer talking about this driver of the #50 having artificial legs, I think that's why I took this picture.  That and the fact that it didn't have a wing on it.  Or maybe that's why I took the next picture, I don't know.  Anyway I remember these as Butch Fuller, can anybody confirm that?

I always liked it when the drivers would look at the camera.  Anybody recognize the flagman on the left?

The driver of the #50 was Butch Fuller. He had 2 artificial legs and owned a restaurant in Everett.....can't think of the name of it........Safeway Kelly will remember.

Twas the "Riverside Timber Cafe" if I recollect rightly. Went up in flames about 20 or so years ago.

I think the Riverside Timber Cafe was local country/western star Gerry Andal's place. On the thread a ways down about Nancy Fuller's passing, Kelly names the restaurant as the Timberwolf, which sounds vaguely familiar.
Out of curiosity, is Butch still living?

Okay, we got the name of the flagman.  Now, how many of you diehard Spanaway fans can name the drivers of the pushtrucks?  I'd give bonus points for naming the ambulance driver, but that's just too darn easy!

Spanaway, what a place. Where professionalism and cheeziness collided.  The snack bar featuring Wanda's Belly Bombs (burgers), Chili cones, sometimes fish sticks, all washed down with an ice cold cup of Double Cola!

Anyone else remember that old white house outside the third turn where all those people used to climb up on the roof and watch the races for free?  When I was 10 years old, my dream for when I grew up was to buy that house so I could watch the races from up there.  Fast forward to 2008, if that house were still standing it would probably go for half a million dollars...and since the track is gone, I wouldn't even get to watch the races!  Wotta ripoff!  :(

I remember a few push truck driver's names from over the years, but not too many.  Skeet Brock, Romy Barico(no idea how to spell that), Jerry and Stan Clarke, Harley Petty, I think Smiley Boettger's dad drove one(Dan Boettger I think), and Bob Sheckler.  Then there was that guy with the older truck with a wheelchair in the back, I don't don't think I ever knew his name.

The ambulance driver was Doc Shaffer, and later Gene Stevens' wife Gerri?

Wasn't that house with the people on the roof the location of some roofing or fence company?  I too used to dream about living there.

I also claimed to hate onions my whole life, until my older sister gave me the leftovers of her Boness burger one day.  I was about 7 years old, been craving them things ever since.  A few years ago I even tried to find out where Wanda got that secret sauce, Dan Pikron told me she made it.  Around '82 or '83 I even tried to bet Wanda I could eat 10 burgers, and if I could they would be free, if not I would pay for what I ate.  She wouldn't do it, probably looking out for my health.  So instead I would wait until they announced the hamburgers and cheesburges for a buck and go buy as many as I could afford.  Good times back then.

Gerry Andal's restaurant was located on Everett Mall Way. Butch's Riverside Timber was on the east end of Hewitt Ave. There is a gas station there now. Ate many a meal there as it was right on the way between work & home and Butch was always good for a chat if he was there. Last I heard, last summer, Butch was in the area.

Thanks for the update on Butch, Just and Old Guy.  He always seemed like a nice guy, and a solid driver who probably would have had a lot more wins in a bit better equipment.
...And as for you, Bob46, you are too good.  Wow!  I will add that in one of the pictures, the blue GMC in the background is Jim Murphy.
rickt, after YOUR experiences, I'm surprised you have enough brain cells left to run this website, lol!

In the 70's my ex sister-in-law lived in Tacoma, so what better chance than to drop her off when WRA was racing and go to Spanaway.  Sometimes you would be lucky enough to see Jerry Edson or Steve Beitler show up and dirt track their way around.  Talking about Jim Murphy, how many of you remember Jim doing donuts on the clay at Skagit, only to turn that truck on it's side in turn 2 infront of a full Friday Night crowd?  They took a collection in the stands and I think he came out pretty good as he was a push truck legend.  Also remember at Spanaway the military planes flying low, the red flag beers and the little playground for the kids.  Also Butch Fullers first sprinter was orange and sponsored by the old 'Pay n Pack' hardware chain.  I went to school with his daughter Christy and she was the Dirt Cup Trophy Girl in '76 at Skagit

I think the #14 is Gary Patterson.  (I may have my years messed up) That looks like one of those old Ed Watson cars.

The picture of the 23 car has some real history in it if I'm not mistaken. The car was an ex Bob McLess car that was later campaigned by Ernie Koch with Gordy Stewart, Everett Koch, and Jim Miller driving at various times. It appears this was the era when WRA was running Les Swab Multimilers for tires instead of racing slicks. In the picture I believe Everett Koch is kneeling behind the car and Glenn Seidelman is standing off to the side. Up by the white van it looks like Bill Seidelman with his foot up on the trailer and the white cowboy hat behind Bill has to be Ernie Koch. Thanks for the memories Bob46.

Bob Gregg always was a dog timer but I still loved the guy , travelled with him and John and Mike for a couple of years with CAMRA and with Mike's USAC midget.. , Kissin Crow was a great guy , he shared our shop in Portland when he was long haul trucking and living in Portland in 1972, always had the Moose MIlk ready for Christmas and special occasions ,,like TGif....I taught his son Danny how to take care of Bill's car.. He had a  roadster in those days as well   , I never did know Billy Foster but watched his career ever since his Indy car was in the window of the Eatons store on Douglas St way back in 64 or 65   whatever was the first year he raced at Indy in the Spirit of Victoria . must have been 64 just before I joined the AirForce,, It was one of Rolla's cars wasn't it..        Anyway those are good pictures  and I know you have a real good collection,,  You should see Ralph's old beater now., it probably missed that race because they blew the Flattie up in Nanaimo  and were putting the Caddie engine in for Haney the next week.  Attaching a now and then shot..1964 and now..  RJ
