I hope someone out there can help me with this... My son is starting on his Senior Project for next year.  He has to write a 15-20 page report to fulfil his graduation requirements.  Unlike most of his fellow students, he is a 3rd generation racer and has decided to forego the standard report.  He has chosen to pick a more challenging topic than the others.  His goal is to do his project on the infamous Pink Lady.

We would like to get any information, stories, pictures, whatever you may have.  I know this may be somewhat of overwhelming task for us, but this is very near to our hearts.  He has been a fan of Kenny Hamilton's for years, but he would like to have other peoples inputs as well.

Thanks in advance!

I have some pictures of the Pink Lady that Grant King built in 1963 for Art Sugai.  The fellow from Princraft in Boise has a bunch of pictures also.

Before he starts, the big question is, WHICH Pink Lady?   Kenny Hamilton still has and drives the upright.  However, the roadster was the more interesting incarnation of the Pink Lady, in my opinion.  I can't remember when Art Sugai retired the roadster, but I do remember on occasion he brought both the roadster and the upright to race.

To me, the roadster is the more interesting because of the great men who drove it. Kenny Hamilton, Ron Porter, Jim Roberts, and even Art Pollard.  Kenny Hamilton started out as a pit crew member on the roadster.

Oh, and if we want to stretch the "Pink Lady" name a bit farther, Rick Mears got his start in Art Sugai's Eagle Offy "Pink Lady" at Indy.

A great website to start out at is:   http://www.onewest.net/~kc7esb/  There isn't a whole lot on the Pink Lady, but it is pictured on the main page.  The website gives a great insight into the racing of that era.

This article gives a more complete picture of Kenny Hamilton's career driving for Art Sugai:  http://idahoracingnews.com/node/70
What a wonderful subject for a paper!  I hope your son will share it with us here after he completes it.

The Pink Lady from Sky Valley was bought by Greg Curtis and on his first trip as owner of the Frank Tucker car put it on it's side in turn 4 at Skagit.  The #32 was then called the InLaw Sprinter driven by Debbie (Kracke) Huson and Fred Brownfield.  Was a history in that car #.

Here are some pictures of the first Pink Lady sprint car Grant King built for Art Sugai in early 1963 in Victoria, B.C in Geoff Vantreight's shop. He built four cars . one for Geoff, one for Art, one for Frank Janet from Calgary, AB and one for Dick Midgley. Jack Eckman is driving the Pink Lady.

Hey Curt  ,, when you do get in touch with him ,,ask about how Tommy Fox used to tow 2 different Pink Lady Sprinters to the races ,, One was the big Block Grant King car and the other was a small block Watson car  that was sold to Maggie Ford in about 1972 ish and Cliff Spalding drove it after that.. no idea where it went from there ..  Both cars were identical in appearance except for the engines ,, Some days a small block worked better than the Rat motor,, I remember mostly Tom doing  this for the IDC races in 70 and 71 ,, He was always late getting to the track  and Kenny always had to time in with little or no practice,, He was always fast though.  RJ

alwade32, I believe the unnamed gentleman in your picture with Jack Eckman, Art Pollard, and Art Sugai is Ken Hamilton...back when he started out on the pit crew.

I would not be surprised if someone told me the other gentleman was a young Bob Vantreight, Gerry's dad.

Somewhere I have a pic of this car from the front......somebody had really good airbrush skills. The painted lady on the hood really stood out. Back in those days the letter after the number designated where the car owner was from.....the U meaning Utah, D was for Colorado(Denver), C was California etc. I kinda miss those days....kinda.....lol.

Here's a picture of the car that Cliff drove for Maggie, he called it "The Pink Bitch".  I remember Cliff was the first driver to time-in at Spanaway in under 14 seconds with that car, that track record was short lived as it was broken the next weekend.

As is mentioned in a more recent thread, Jim Roberts has passed away.  If memory serves correctly. I believe he was at one time, a driver of the Grant King big block upright version of the Pink Lady.

RIP Jim.

The early Pink Lady Sprinter in this pic with Jack Eckman, still exists here in Boise. A fellow named Jack Warnke was still racing it as a Super Six Modified up untill about 2003, when it was severely damaged at Meridian Speedway. It was last seen locked inside it's enclosed trailer last year.
