Brian Simonseth scanned in some of Harold Beitlers photos from the 70's. This is a great addition to Skagit's website. Check it out!

Wow! Those pictures are what Skagit was all about, and is the link to what it's become. I just called a friend and we were scanning through the pictures via phone, and he could name all the the racers except two...and in those two instances it was a case of "either "him" or his brother."
Point being, I think this is totally great of Skagit Speedway to have this awesome history link on their website. Williams Grove, and a lot of other famous dirt tracks have done it. To me, it just seems that it adds to the legend, to the mystic of the track. When you get right down to it, our Charlie Gibbs was probably the equivelant of the Grove's Paul Pitzer, our Ross Fontes probably like their Fred Rahmer, our Doug James...heck, Pennsylvania will probably have to wait 100 years to find someone like him!
Thanks for the postings, Harold Beitler. You were at the top of your class. Other photogs whose work needs to be saved is that of Elaine Blackstock and Barb Evans. And if you're seeing this thread, George Hespe...your work is extremely valuable, and I hope you are saving it for future generations, because you too are one of the elite!
I think we tend to overlook the importance of the track photographers until it's too late. It's only when we get old do we find how much their captures enhance our memories and our lives.
So to you, all those guys in white pants, hanging over the inside rail, taking KodaChome memories of our lives, Thank You!
