The trophy vehicle was a 47 Chev Convertible owned by Ed and Kay Mattson.

It had a fuel injected 350 Corvette Engine. This was a very cool car also.

One last note, there was a car there that was a creamy mustard yellow roadster, number 7. The car was driven and is owned by Don Shervey who is 85. Don raced with SCCA until he turned 80. The car was a Carl Irish, 1962 roadster with a 305 Chevy in it. The car raced all over the Western states and Canada with driver Bob Gregg. It may have been the first roadster sprint in the NW. When they sat in it and fired it up I was standing by Don Newman's car. I forgot to snap a photo, it rumbled through my chest and gave me goosebumps.

For some reason, this weekend really resonated with me, about the history of our sport and how important the open wheel community is. Both the Golden Wheels and the West Coast Vintage Racers return to Ephrata August 30th. If you aren't already planning on attending Skagit Speedway for the Outlaw show, I would recommend that you catch this event. It is truly outstanding and very moving to be in the presence of these showroom, museum quality vehicles.

Exactly the car I was thinking about.  The rumble was amazing...gives me chills thinking about it.
