Kilcup takes fourth at Skagit, time for the Outlaws
ALK Promotions, August 26

Steve Kilcup had another strong run Saturday night at Skagit Speedway, driving his way to a fourth place finish in the winged 360 sprint car main event.

Sedro-Woolley’s Kilcup, driving the Mike & Shaylen Motorsports No. 18 Shark-powered Eagle, sponsored by Burlington Collision, Tri-County Truss, Anderson Power Washing, Art’s Auto Wrecking, SignMart and Heavy D, is now hoping for a strong outing this coming weekend against some of the world’s best sprint car racers when the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series makes its annual visit to Washington.

On Saturday, Kilcup started his evening by qualifying ninth with a time of 12.679 seconds. Starting fifth in the first heat race, Kilcup finished fourth to secure his starting spot in the 25-lap main event.

Steve started the main event outside the fourth row. Kilcup ran eighth behind Danny Kirkpatrick until getting around him on lap seven. Kilcup moved up to sixth when Brian Kirkpatrick had problems and then got around youngster Jared Peterson for fifth on lap 11. Peterson got back around him, but Kilcup remained fifth after Cory Chamberlain went to the back of the field.

Kilcup continued to race with Peterson and finally got around him on lap 16. Kilcup would remain in fourth for the rest of the race and finish behind race winner Alan Munn. For Kilcup, it was his best finish of the month so far. Kilcup also finished fifth in the Skagit 360 Nationals on August 2.

Next for Kilcup is a few nights of racing with the 410ci motor back under the hood. This Friday and Saturday, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series visits Skagit Speedway for the NC Machinery Caterpillar Clash. On Labor Day, September 1, Kilcup will join the series again at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. On Saturday, September 6, Kilcup will be back at Skagit Speedway for the track’s season championships.

A small piece of trivia for you Banker.  Ryan (The Flyin Dutchman) Nootenboom has won heat races in three different  classes at Skagit Speedway.

Sprint cars 2008, Flat track quads 2007, Outlaw hornets 2006.

That still could change to main event wins in 2008.

Monico raced that car in 06! for 1 race, Piazza got behind the wheel the next night and junked the car.   I think that Mr.856-APEX owns it now.

I knew that.  You have main event wins in two of them too, don't you?  Didn't you win the B Main last year on the quad?  Pick up a Sporty win (easier said than done in such a competitive class) and you'll be able to say that same thing about Main events also. :)

BS, they do too.  It's a "main event".  You win it, it counts.

If B-Mains don't count, why are we talking about heat races?  They count even less.

no points awarded for MOST B Main event wins, and B Main wins mean outside the Top 16 usually. Hardly a win. Now I am just being obnoxious. Thanks Bill. See what destruction you have wrought?

Bull, Ryan gets ME in trouble.  What about the Good Game I gave Cassandra?  Don't you remember you told me to do it?  Yeah, that was bad.  In the stands no less...sheesh...

Great, Ryan, Skippy and I in the stands again this weekend spreading hate and discontent. :P  Not really, just hootin' and hollerin' and having a good time. :)

No, you're not going to sell me on this one.  A win is a win.  You're up against competitors trying to win the race also.  It's a win.

If you're worried about points then you're not having enough fun. :)

Hmm...let me mull it over...

And if Skippy picks anyone other than Rutz, he's a traitor.  We've been doing this for 2 years and EVERY time he picks Travis Rutz. :)

I know how you feel about work productivity.  I just have to get through the rest of today and I am off for the rest of the week, and I'm still struggling.

I love the pre func idea.  Fast time is gonna be tricky though.  Nothing tastes better than free time in beer. :D

Love your new icon.  Don't forget the meet and greet in chico on Saturday the 6th. 12:30 Sierra Nevada Brewing.  Andy Forsberg says he will be attending, so, be there or be square.
