Mason Moore runs 14th in Fall Nationals B-main on Saturday night

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – September 7, 2008…Princeton’s Mason Moore had a possible opportunity to transfer into the Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals A-main for the second year in a row this past Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway, until the rough and treacherous track left him tipped over in turn two during the early stages of the semi main event.

Due to a rainout on Friday night the 17th annual Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals concluded on Saturday with a pill draw and passing point’s show that was similar to the ASCS format that is seen across the country, where qualifying isn’t held. Since Friday’s drivers were unable to compete on their prelim night the decision was made to throw out Thursday’s points and go for an all-out, one night extravaganza to battle for the $6,000 grand prize.

A strong field of 75 cars showed up for competition on Saturday evening at the Silver Dollar Speedway and Moore found himself in the sixth of seven 10 lap heat races. The 17 year-old racer lined-up in the fifth position and utilized a great start on the opening lap to move the F&F Racing, Roseville Precision, Sierra Single Ply No. x1 into the third spot. Moore ran solidly for the remainder of the heat race and was able to hang on and finish in the third position.

After point tallies for the heat races were added up Moore missed automatically making the A-main event by just two spots, but it was still good enough to give him a front row starting birth in the 20 lap B-main. The track surface was extremely fast and was getting rougher as the night went on, which ultimately bit the young driver after just a handful of laps had been completed. As Moore ran in a transfer spot he caught a rut in turn two like many others also did through the night and flipped over to bring out a red flag.

Moore was able to go to the work area and get back out for the restart, but following another issue later on in the race he eventually finished in the 14th spot to put an end to the Fall Nationals. It wasn’t the way Moore and the team hoped to end the prestigious race, but the Princeton driver will put it behind him as he gets ready for the final event of the Silver Dollar Speedway season, which is coming up this weekend.

The event on Friday and Saturday will mark the fourth annual Wingless Sprint Nationals at the quarter-mile bullring and Moore will go into it after getting some hot laps in during the opening night of the Fall Nationals this past Thursday. “We still had some work to go to get the car perfect, but Mason looked like he was picking it up pretty fast towards the end of the last hot lap session,” said crew chief Mike Clarke.

Moore will look to put a good ending to a season at Silver Dollar Speedway in which he finished third in the Feather Falls Casino 410 Winged Sprint Car point standings as he takes to the track for the first time in a wingless sprinter. “Primetime” is also tentatively planning on competing at the upcoming Trophy Cup in Tulare on October 23, 24 and 25.

So, to paraphrase, what you are saying is, "He hit a bump and tipped over all by himself?"   ;)
