Willamette Speedway Track Reporter, Drivers and Fans Make Impact Off the Track
Long-time Willamette Speedway announcer and track reporter Ron Bennett presented a check in the amount of $1350.50 to the ABC House in Albany on behalf of the Oregon Racers for Kids Association.
Founded in 2003, Oregon Racers for Kids Association is a non-profit organization funded by generous donations from drivers and race fans. It was initially formed to assist two families with children facing life-threatening illnesses. Ron Bennett was inspired to take action after his family experienced the loss of his grandson, Jacob, to leukemia at the age of 4. Ron knows only too well of not only the emotional pain of dealing with a sick child, but the expense of treatment that is not covered by insurance: gas, child care for siblings, and time off work all add up.
The Oregon Racers for Kids Association leadership is comprised of: President Ron Bennett, Treasurer Gloria Bennett, and the Volunteer Board of Directors: Allison Hodges, Chris VanSant, and Jim Sapp.
Last year, Ron retired from his announcing duties at speedway, and this spring, announced his official retirement as a race reporter. With his retirement, it was decided to close out the Oregon Racers for Kids Association account and donate the balance of the account ($1350.50) to another charity that works for children.
ABC House is a non-profit advocacy and assessment center for victims of child abuse. This organization coordinates all the agencies involved in the investigation of suspected child abuse, as well as supporting the child and family throughout the process.
Ron would like to thank Lori Arnold for helping to select a worthy charity, and thank you to everyone who helped make O.R.K.A. a huge success.
