Normally, I don’t have a problem starting off these rambling posts of mine, but this one is tough. When we started Northsound Racing back in February of last year, it was with the understanding that the Everett Silvertips and Aquasox have priority over anything that we would do. I understand that those two teams bring a significant amount of revenue into KRKO, and agreed to whatever I had to agree to in order to get the show on the air, because I look at NSR as a unique opportunity to still be involved in the local racing community.
This season with the Aquasox is for some reason, different. Please don’t think for a heartbeat that I blame any body or anything for what we are thinking about doing. When Carla, Gaylon and I met to plan out how the show would be presented, the theme that I wanted to project is respect. Respect to the listeners, guests, the radio station, and ourselves as well. I am well aware of how valuable all our time is, and the people involved in racing deserve at the very least, the most respect we can give them.
I also feel that any type of show needs to have an amount of continuity to it. It should be on at the same time every week, and with the way things are now, I can’t guarantee when we can be on. It’s not fair to the listeners and guests to say “Well, I don’t’ know if we’ll be on tonight, but let’s go ahead and plan on having you on, and maybe the ball game will get over with early, and by the way, I don’t have any idea when we’ll be calling you, so tell your friends, family and sponsors to stay up, because your going to kick *** when we interview you. Thanks for participating”. So, welcome to our dilemma.
So, what I’m going to suggest is that we start the show back up after the baseball season is over, which according to the schedule, is September 5th. It’s really hard on all 3 of us to do prep-work, and then decide at 10:30 whether we should go on or not. I certainly don’t expect listeners to stay up that late, on the chance that we’ll be on. I do not want to feel like I’m wasting a bunch of people’s time, just so my ego can be satisfied, because I get to host a decent show about racing. I truly enjoy doing the show, but if I can’t do it the way that I’d like to do it, I’d rather not do it at all.
Please don’t bombard the radio station. As I stated above, this is a business. I understand that this is a situation that we don’t have any control over, and while disappointed, I’m not bitter. This place has given me opportunities that I never would have had the chance to do. For that, I’ll be forever grateful.
Stay tuned, I’ll keep you posted.
