Leighty Racing would like to thank pushinthecushin for having Rich Leighty as the Driver Profile on the front page of their great site. Pushinthecushion does a lot to promote and help our sport.  If you haven't seen pushinthecushin, it is at http://www.pushinthecushin.com. Also, thanks to everyone who has stopped by the Leighty Racing site. Updates and additions to the site are taking place on a regular basis. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Comment: Awesome website and great exposure on pushinthecushion.

Suggestion to Rick: Several years ago we had a WESCO Christmas party at my house and your Dad captivated me with the stories and efforts he put into racing at Sky Valley and Skagit over the many years. My suggestion is : fix Dad two drinks of Black Velvet and get the tape recorder out and record the historic stories that he can tell about consistently traveling from PACIFIC BEACH and racing; crashing at friends places and the finally making it back home; time and time again for what must be a record consecutive  races attended. Definitely a long haul award is justified. The Silver Fox just gets better.

I'm half Rich's age and I just hope that when I am 70 and older than dirt, I am still able to kick some tail and take some names like he can!! Especially in a sprint car. Lots of respect due here!!:D And very easy to chat with as well!

T. Michael,

Here is an adventure Dad and I were talking about not to long ago. Back in '71 Dad was running for points at both Elma and Skagit. So, we were making the trip to Skagit every Friday night  and occasionally hitting Sky Valley on Saturday night (this was before Skagit and Sky Valley switched days). Elma ran about 2 Sunday afternoons a month. On Memorial Weekend and Labor Day Weekend, Skagit would also run a special Sunday night show and of course Elma raced on those Sundays. Before Memorial Weekend, Dad talked to the Elma officials and they agreed to run the modifieds first and give any cars that wanted to head to Skagit a chance to get out of the pits before starting the jalopy main. The plan was set, we would run 3 shows in 3 days. So, we headed to Skagit as usual on Friday, raced and stayed at Bub Beck's, but somewhere along the line Dad got talked into racing Sky Valley on Saturday and we stayed at Jerry McGrew's. Sunday, we made it to Elma, and everything worked out and we headed back to Skagit, pulled in just in time to qualify and run our 4th race in 3 days. (All top 5 finishes by the way.) It worked so well we repeated the scenario on Labor Day weekend. The worst part, I wasn't old enough to get into the pits and had to sit in the stands.

Rick

Recent Updates:

Two new albums have been added to the Photo Gallery. Northwest Visitors and Northwest Racers show a few with which Rich Leighty has taken the track. Also (T. Michael should like this), a Bench Racing page has been added where Rich will retell his racing adventures.

Don't forget the Cast Iron Nationals at Ephrata on May 3rd.
