About 15 years ago I wrote one of several articles for Racing Wheels Newspaper. The article title was "Did You Ever Wonder?" One of the things I questioned in the article was ; Did you ever wonder how good Jay Barnes would be if given the best of equipment? Well the question was answered at Dirt Cup when we all got to see what happens when you mix the Barnes racing genes with a Don Ott motor. Jayme took no prisoners and was a virtual Rocket.
I really do not know much about Jayme other than while talking to Barney Barnes several years ago, he seemed to like the kid. Watching him drive reminds me of his Dads driving ability and that move through traffic definitely was characteristic of a old Jay Barnes move. Jay Barnes and Timmy Harris were the best of slicers and dicers. What a show they used to put on?
Of course we all want the bragging rights to the Dirt Cup to stay with a local driver, but knowing the Barnes, I'll bet Jayme would run just as hard at any given track on any given night against any given competitors. The only difference here is that when Jayme came up for air, there were a whole lot of Pacific N.W. fans there to prays him. In the years to come the significants of his name on that trophy will become clear. Last week-end he was just doing his job and flat kicked butt. Way to go to Jayme and the whole Barnes family.
While your Dad was kicking clay clods and cussing that 94"er after Thursday time ins, you did it your way and followed your dream. Best of luck in the future.
