Some sad news, Medford news is reporting that Michelle Nutter was involved in a head on accident about 12:30 this morning. Reporting that she was in serious condition and was taken to a local hospital. Last heard she was in surjury, but no details on her condition. Please keep Michelle and Billy in your thoughts as you go about your daily routine. If I hear anything else, I will post it. If anyone else hears more, please post to keep us informed.

I heard of this on our local news last night and wondered if it was the same Michelle. Happened just a few miles from my home. The bridge where she crashed has a 350 ft. drop off into the Crooked River Gorge.

Here's a link to our local TV station web site on the story.

Wishes and hopes of a speedy and full recovery to Michelle!

Off another site.

A violent head-on crash on Highway 97 north of Terrebonne early Wednesday afternoon sent three people to the hospital, one of whom was admitted. It also backed up traffic for miles in both directions until the wreckage was cleared more than two hours later, State Police said.

Around 12:40 p.m., a 2003 Mitsubishi coupe driven by Michelle Nutter, 52, of Central Point, was heading south on Highway 97 when she crossed into oncoming traffic, for unknown reasons, on the railroad overpass south of the Rex T. Barber Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Crooked River, said OSP Sgt. Don Wagner.

Nutter's car collided head-on with a 2002 Ford F-350 crew cab pickup driven by David Jasper, 49, of Bend, which flipped onto its top near the road's outer concrete barrier, Wagner said.

Both vehicles came to rest blocking the southbound lane of travel. Nutter reportedly had to be extricated from her car and was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center-Redmond, where she was listed in fair condition Wednesday evening, according to a nursing supervisor.

Jasper and his passenger, Sharon Murphy, 47, of Bend, also went by ambulance to the Redmond hospital, where they were being treated for minor injuries and released, the nursing supervisor said.

All three people reportedly were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, which deployed air bags in both vehicles, the sergeant said, adding that the crash remained under investigation.

The crash shut Highway 97 in both directions for close to an hour, at which point one of the two lanes opened. It took until after 3 p.m. to open the other lane, and that caused summertime traffic to back up for several miles - to Madras on the north and to Redmond on the south.

Deschutes County sheriff's deputies, area fire and rescue personnel, and ODOT assisted at the scene.

Wagner said drivers need to be very careful when traffic narrows into two lanes in the area, with concrete barriers.

Another crash tied up traffic for close to an hour on Highway 126 on Redmond's east side late Wednesday morning. Police said one driver pulling out to turn left on the highway near the Redmond Air Center apparently failed to see an oncoming, eastbound SUV.

The SUV tried to swerve to avoid a crash, but they collided on the driver's side of both vehicles. One driver was cited in the crash and the other went to the hospital for a checkup on abdominal pains, said Redmond police Sgt. Keith Knight.

My Thoghts and well wishes for a fast recovery go out to the Nutter family.

Was informed that Michelle has a shattered right ankle and cuts to her right arm. To see the car, you would think it would have been much worse. Thank God it wasn't. Speedy recovery and see you soon Michelle.

I talked to Billy at the Medford Speedweek show And If I remember correct her ankle was not a compound fracture just a really bad sprain. Bumps and Bruises. She didn't remember why she went across the lane. But called Billy while still in the car. The scary part was the top of the car was ripped off.

Oh, no-I really did get a compounded fracture right above my ankle-my leg was about 2/3's severed. I just got out of the hospital today after a 5 day stay for a bunch of blood clots in my right lung, mainly. I'm doing great though now-I can go outside! I hate being cooped up!

I did get to miss Bill running Sat. at Medford, though-he started 5th in his heat and finished 2nd, won the dash, 2nd in the Main. I guess in the dash he set the fastest lap time of the year-11.5 something. I'll post more if I'm wrong!
