Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 2, 2008) – Following a successful pair of inaugural events during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the American Sprint Car Series Northwest Region fires back into action with a pair of events in Oregon this weekend.

On Friday night, the ASCS Northwest Region takes to the high-banked, ¼-mile Willamette Speedway clay oval in Lebanon, OR.  Then on Saturday night, the series moves on to the semi-banked, ¼-mile Cottage Grove Speedway clay oval in Cottage Grove, OR.

A total of 34 different drivers took in the series inaugural weekend of racing at Grays Harbor Raceway Park in Elma, WA, on May 24 and 25, with Jayme Barnes and Seth Bergman notching the series initial wins.

Hailing from Snohomish, WA, the 20-year-old Bergman escaped the opening weekend with the series early points lead, holding a narrow four-point edge over Enumclaw, Washington's Henry Van Dam.  Barnes is another two points back in third, with Rob Held and Jared Ridge tied for fourth.

Jared Peterson enters this weekend's Oregon double ranked sixth, with the balance of the current top ten including Brendan Boyce, Jonathan Allard, Mitch Olson and Todd Zeitlen.

Friday's action at Willamette Speedway goes green at 7:00 p.m., with Saturday's card at Cottage Grove Speedway firing off at 7:00 p.m.

Willamette Speedway is located in Lebanon, OR, off I-5 to SR 34, then 5.4 miles east on SR 34, then 2.2 miles southeast on Denny School Road (which turns into Airport Drive).  For more information, contact the track at 541-258-8503 or 541-258-6888.

Cottage Grove Speedway is located in Cottage Grove, OR, off southbound I-5 Exit 174, then straight through at light for one block on Gateway, then one block south on North 19th Street, then right for 0.3 miles on Ostrander Lane, then 0.4 miles north on Douglas (next to the fairgrounds).  For more information, contact the track at 541-942-7561.

The inaugural season of racing action for the American Sprint Car Series Northwest Region includes 15 nights of racing action at a half dozen different tracks throughout Washington and Oregon.

The nation's most prominent Sprint Car sanctioning body with a dozen different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car Series' (ASCS) 17th year of activity will include approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different states and Canada.
