Well as the sun has been showing its face the last couple weeks one can only hope that the time is near. The time where "Summer Nights" isn't an expression used to describe John Travolta or Olivia Newton-John's love between each other but a realistic love. But the love of speed, power, and excitement rolled into lap after lap after lap with inches to spare and all on the line. It is the part of the year in which we dedicate ourselves to our home away from home, the Cottage Grove Speedway.
And as the foul weather passes a new season approaches on the horizon. A chance for a few select drivers to prove themselves as champions and etch themselves into the continuing lore of the Cottage Grove Speedway. Who will be the few to hoist their crowns above their heads, which will be on top when all is said and done, and who will last the tiresome campaign and conquer all?
Last season was undoubtedly the Year of Broken Records this year is the Year of Who. With two defending champions reportedly stepping down the other two moving around it is any ones title to be earned. So there you have a chance for four new champions in each class for this season. No class will have a dynasty of repeats, but everyone will be looking to start one.
In the upcoming weeks as we approach “zero hour” I will go in depth and in detail of each class and preview possible candidates for the crown as well as break the last season down. Also look out for in depth interviews with title hopefuls as we rapidly approach that first race the race that will determine “who” might possibly be the person who will earn himself/herself into Cottage Grove Speedway lore.
