Sunset Speedway Park in Banks, Oregon and Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington are excited to announce a new four race series called the Northwest Street Stock Challenge.
The four race series will have two races at each track and will crown an overall Champion. Each race will pay $500.00 to the winner, race dates for Sunset Speedway Park are May 29th and August 7th, Grays Harbor Raceway dates are June 19th and August 28th.
More information will be announced later as the final details are still being worked out.

| So since it's down at Banks, does that mean all cars run the Bank's Street Stock rules? Because it seems like their rules are a little more lax than GHR's rules. Do we have to register for the series, or just show up and run? Is there a driver registration fee for the track like there is at GHR?

Do not no the answers. I sent Jerry a email asking if he can post information on the Sunset web site. Maybe if George see's this he can answer.

| Well, I just saw that George was online, and sent him a PM with my inquiries. Hopefully I'll hear back from him soon so I can decide if I'm going or not.

"Its the same as the past they run their rules, we run our rules. You do not have to pre register. There is a $25 Enrty fee for the car, the pit pass is not included in the $25"
Straight from George's own keyboard. I also called Scott Winebarger and asked him the particulars of Sunset's rules. One could take from George's statement that GHR cars still have to run GHR rules on the Banks surface, and the Banks cars run Banks rules at GHR. Doesnt bother me so much with running down there, as even though I've heard horsepower helps, a well handling smooth car is the way to go. But what about when they run up here? Their rules allow for any intake, and any single carb. That could be a major factor on a track as big and racey as GHR, along with the fact they have no cubic inch limit. If we're running our rules, choked down to a 2 barrel and 390 cubic inches, and they can come up with a 502 crate engine and the biggest 4 barrel they can find, they'll lap the whole field twice before the race is done.
I only ask this to get a clear picture of what's to come, and to get everything ironed out before there is a communication gap come race day. Compared to our normal $150, $500 is quite a bit to play for with one race, and I want to make sure that the playing field is level. Because if the Banks cars CAN run Banks rules at GHR, I'll park my hobby stock, and start fixing up this old orange car that I swear is a Banks-legal Street Stock.

Other than GHR requiring to run take offs. What other changes in the rules was there from the prior year? Sunset's rules are the same as last years. There were 7 cars that came up from Sunset last year that raced in the Challenge. I had the top finish of those which was fifth, a few more laps and I would have been lapped. I do not think the Banks cars are going to have a cake walk up there...

No, but GHR rules have changed... 390 cubic inch rule, cast iron two barrel or performer intake only, 500 cfm 2 barrel carb unless running a crate engine... Last year the shootout had a carb limit that ALL cars, regardless of home track had to run the 4412 carb. But if it's Banks rules are allowed to run at GHR this year, which have NO cubic inch limit, and no carb restrictions other than you're only allowed one, along with any intake you please, should beat our Two barrel cars on any day of the week, twice on sunday. Not to mention that they can run weight jacks and aftermarket suspension setups.
So my question is, is it GHR rules for ALL cars racing on the GHR surface, or just for GHR cars while Banks cars can do what they want? Same thing for down at Banks, Is it Banks rules for ALL cars, or just Banks cars, and GHR has to run their own setup? Because the way it was said, it could be interpreted either way, and I want to be clear before I get my setup the way i want it, only to find out that it's illegal.

| I talked to Jerry Saturday night. He said cars coming to Sunset from GHR to race the Challenge can race Sunsets rules. Do not take my word I would call or email him to verify, contact info is on their web site. When the race is ran at GHR I agree with you that GHR cars should be able to run Sunsets rules if they wish.

Well, though I do not doubt you, I will call Jerry to see for myself. That would be a very stand-up thing to do, it will definitely allow for a level playing field if we're all running the same rule set. But also, straight from Mr. Wade himself:
" At either track, cars run there home track rules. Grays Harbor cars run their rules at Banks and Grays Harbor. Banks cars run there rules at Banks and Grays Harbor. "
So unlike last year, when you had to at least choke your cars down to the same carb that we run on our cars, it looks like Banks cars will be allowed to come up and run wide open against GHR cars. Not that I think that we will go down without a fight, but even on our home track, the mechanical advantage would be yours, with suspension mods, no cubic limit, and 4 barrel carbs. It should be interesting, at the very least. I dont say this to take away from any of the racers at Banks, as I believe that on your home track, you'll be a formidible challenge. You've got a lot of good racers down there, not all of whom could come up for the shootout last year. I think that's going to be a nasty surprise for anyone from GHR going down there with dreams of grandeur.

| i would thing you guys would be happy they are doing something like this. stop cryin and go race. horsepower has no effect on the cars at banks, it is who has the right set up. at elma yeah there may be a little advantage to the banks cars. but they still will have no chance against the top 5 elma cars.

I dont think anyone is crying just trying to find out exactly what the rules are going to be.

Exactly. I dont mind getting my butt handed to me on the track, as long as it was because I got outdriven, not because of a mechanical advantage that the rules would grant.

| From what I have heard horsepower isnt that important down there, maybe the reason for their open rules, and now that our cars are on slicks its a little less important at our track. If they are infact allowed to run big carbs they should have the advantage, but dont think they can beat our top cars. Will be interesting to watch.

| Yeah, but they are a lot more used to running the slicks. A lot of our guys are still trying to adjust to them. As far as the open rules on their track, I have no objections. But last year a car with an open motor, a 406 I believe, came from mid pack and beat Zack, arguably the best driver of the last 3 years in a stock car at GHR. And he did it with a 2 barrel, 500 CFM carb. Now I'm not saying that Brandon cant drive, far from it. But that carb for that motor was illegal at the time. Would he have won with a 350 CFM carb? Doubtful. Now give him a 750 double pumper. He would clean the chrome off bumpers as he lapped people for the second time. Meaning no disrespect to the good racers of Banks, what you do down there is not for me to critique. I dont race there on a weekly basis. But here at GHR, a track where horsepower DOES matter, I dont want to watch the weekly racers, the ones who put fans in the stands every weekend, get beat on their own track by drivers who are coming up from another track with jacked up motors, and taking the prize money back home with them. And like I said, my money is on a local to win the races at Banks. They know the track better, they know the setup week in and week out, and they are in their comfort element at home. I dont care what the decision is, as long as it's fair for BOTH SIDES, whether that be everyone run whatever you can stuff in it, or everyone run a choked up two barrel. Either one works for me.

heres my opnion.
the last (X) years ( 3 i think ) the banks cars have went up to GHR, and have got beat. One of the main reason is because GHR cars have had their set up tuned perfectly for that track. Most of the cars that went up there last year have never been there, and was their first time.
I think it will be a fair show, Set-up over powers horse power in most cases ( my opnion )
i Do hope we put on a good show for the fans. What i want to know, is how many cars are planning on racing at banks? It wont be fun if sunset brings ( random number ) 13 cars to GHR, and only 4 GHR's only make the trip south?
i am Really Exited to go up to elma, first ever time on a track bigger than banks. And hopefully i have a good expierance, and have lots of fun, and meet new people.
Here are a list of cars i feel might do good:
1W - Collen w
86 - Randy A
41 - Jessie Freeman
20 - Dennis K
40- Jeff L
77- Smitty
14 - Josh Jones
Thats just a quick list off the top of my head.
i will be driving the White / Orange #23 NOVA.

I used 6.00 at GHR with a flat-top 350 last year, and it seemed to do well. I've heard of guys running as much as 6.20, and as low as 5.83. At Banks, I've heard between a 6.33 and all the way up to almost 7.00. But that's just my opinion

So what you're saying is because you didnt know the track and therefore couldnt adapt to it, we should handicap ourselves because you got beat? What happens when we come to Banks and get beat there, will you allow us to modify our cars beyond your normal home rules so that it's "fair"? Now granted, it may play out differently than that, but from what you said, one of your cars should win at Banks, because you're all tuned for it, and one of your cars should win at GHR because of superior equipment, because you cant figure out our track. A lot of our cars have never been to Banks, we're not tuned for it, neither gearwise nor suspension wise.
If I think that I've got a fair shake at racing competitively, I'd love to make the second trip to Banks. I'd love to make the first one, but college comes first before racing. Hell, if I could, i'd come down the week before the race just to get used to the track. But only if it's gonna be an even playing field. thats not what i ment at all. i have NEVER been to GHR and only seen videos.
But what im saying is, good chances a Banks car will win at BANKS, and GHR car will win at GHR. Both tracks drivers have their set ups for their respected track.
It WILL be a even playing field at banks, and should be close racing at GHR. i will take a well set up car over a HP motor.
Hopefully it is a good time for both groups.
And what collage? ( dont have to answer but just wondering... )
im a Sophmore in High School in forest grove. 5 miles from banks track

Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, about 25 minutes from the track. Only problem is that it's about 40 minutes from where I live in Raymond, and the bus comes at either the crack of dawn, or too late for my classes, and gets me home at about 20 minutes to Dark.
I just think it leaves the possibility for some uneven racing up here. Yeah, we have our suspension dialed in, but that track changes by the minute, especially with new clay. You guys have weight jacks, just like the super stocks used to, so you can adjust on the fly with the turn of a wrench. I want to see close racing, but because of the RACERS, not the equipment. We cant ask you to completely demolish your suspension, that's just not reasonable. But in years past we've all run the same carb, the 4412, so why not again? And at Banks, you guys have an open carb rule, but since HP doesnt seem to matter as much, i'd probably still run my 4412 because the motor is setup the way i like it with it. Let the drivers dictate the outcome, not the good folks at Holley or Edelbrock.

Prep work? How can you prep a track when it has rained constantly all week last week, and if we do race this weekend, all week this week? We have had constant rain.
