AUGUST 4, 2018; The 12th Annual Rory Price Memorial and the Northwest Ford Focus Midget series is set to invade Evergreen Speedway for its annual appearance with the NSRA (Northwest Sprint Car Racing Association), WESCO (Washington Economy Sprint Car Racing Association), the debut of the NW Ford Focus Midgets, stingers, mini stocks, and stock figure 8’s at the famed 3/8th and 1/5 mile paved ovals based in Monroe, WA at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, about 30-45 minutes north of Seattle. The Rory Price Memorial honors the memory of “RP”, Rory Price, a man who raced winged and nonwinged sprint cars (360 and 410 sprint cars and midgets, on both dirt and pavement). He won races all over the west coast with WMRA, BCRA, USAC, NSRA and at Skagit Speedway. Rory was known for his sense of humor and was tragically lost while testing a non-wing sprint car at Evergreen Speedway in March of 2006. RP drove for such notable NW car owners as Wil Kennedy (39), Kelly Kahne (23K), his own 60 car, and Gordy Serwold (99).
The “RP’ is one of the most anticipated races of the year. It draws cars and teams from all over the West Coast and Canada. Last year’s winner, Aaron Willison (eventual 2017 NSRA champion) from Surrey, BC, put on a clinic, coming from 14th to win his first RP (was up to 4th within 4 laps). He will be looking to put the 14 car up front this year.
The 2018 RP also sees the return of multi time RP winner “6 Time” Matt Hein from Roseburg, Oregon, who missed the RP last season with a back injury. Hein will look to put the familiar Hein 98 back into victory circle.
The RP normally draws 25-30 cars for this event and is expected to be a great showing again.
Will we see a first time winner? Will we see a repeat winner?
The 2018 RP also sees the Northwest Ford Focus Midgets in their inaugural appearance on the 1/5th mile paved oval. If you have not seen the show the midgets put on, you are missing out. Gaylon and Carla Stewart are doing a phenomenal job w the midgets. The midget series was initially started by the late Fred Brownfield @ Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington (ironically, Fred passed away about 2 -2.5 months after Rory Price). The midgets are expecting roughly 10-12 cars.
The stingers, stock figure 8’s, mini and stocks will also be in action.
This weekend will definitely be one to not miss. Tickets are $20 for adults ($18+), Seniors (62=) $15, Youth (11-17) – $10, Military (w/ID) – FREE, Kids 10 and Under Free
